I am auditioning for Marymount Manhattan next Saturday, and I was wondering if anyone has been through the process and had any advice??? I'm going for a BFA in Theatre Arts with concentration on Performance, and a Minor in Musical Theatre. Any thoughts would be appreciated... Thanks!

As a BA Theatre Performance Major and Musical Theatre Minor- I'm almost 100% sure you can't be a BFA and Musical Theatre Minor- They say its either BFA alone or BA
NEVER do a monologue from a movie or musical- you will be rejected. More unknown songs are best- never a song on Broadway now. The dance audition is pretty simple. If you have anymore questions or want more details, just PM me. I'd be more than glad to help.
Well, even though the Mimi and myself attend Marymount Manhattan, I would have to disagree. Doing something really out there and "funky" for an audition is very risky and I really wouldn't suggest it. I would say just make sure you're well prepared, and don't do monologues that are found in monologue books or other done-to-death pieces. If you do something different and unique to yourself and your own talents, they will remember you more than they will remember someone who does the infamous Tom in MENAGERIE monologue for the 750th time that day. Just be yourself...but I don't think that the qualities MMC looks for are any different from any other theatre school. Just have fun, and relax.

i should have clarified myself- i dont mean, go on stage and do a funky performance art piece, but if you can find something thats a litle quarky, its better.
Yes, I agree with that.
tcb: NOT TRUE. I performed a monologue from a musical (not a well known musical) but it has great monologues and they were thrilled to here it. I also know someone else who used a musical monologue very well known (THE FANTASTICKS) and both of us were admitted.

Yeah, when I auditioned there a few weeks ago they said the only way you can do the BFA and the MT Minor is if you are willing to take classes during January and Summer terms and possibly go into a 5th year because there are so many required classes. For my audition I sang I Rise Again from On the 20th Century and my monologue was Jim (the gentlman caller) from The Glass Menagerie. Neither is very "funky," but I just got my acceptance letter the other day, so I guess they liked them. Good luck with your audition!
Also, Munk and/or Mimi, do you know a sophomore girl at Marymount with the initials RN? She's doing BFA in Acting, not musical theatre. Just wondering . . .
RN? That's a little broad.

woah woah, sorry for the wrong info, it was just what I was told. I'm sorry.
"RN? That's a little broad."
Very true. The R stands for Rachel.

tcb122 was correct! I just got off the phone with the lady at the Theatre Admissions Office at Marymount. She said absolutely no monologues from musicals.... so the hunt for a good monologue from a straight play is on! Any ideas????
