By the way, the tckets are on TICKETMASTER, and for AMEX presales, not all tickets are on sale. They allocate a certain number of tix throughout the theatre.

Mamie...if they decide to do this and not announce in advance, you'd be hard pressed to pick the right dates, unless you are psychic!!!! So, even if you wanted to go to two shows and could afford it, you'd still be at the mercy of the luck of the draw.

This article makes it sound as if they aren't many tickets left at all...

I think it's a great idea - at least they'll be earning their salaries...

Okay, not quite.

I know Sam. Things have gotten so tight around here that I'd already decided that I probably won't be able to see this. This show, as well as other big hits, are just so out of reach for me now that I'm not even going to consider ever seeing them.

Forget the switching roles - the prices are way more of an issue! 800 dollars a ticket??? Even the 200 dollar ticket price is absurd. It used to cost more to go to a MOVIE than a Broadway show (granted, that was 50 odd years ago I believe), but still....
And they wonder why people don't get out to the theater all that often!
And at those prices, say you wanted to see Lane and Broderick in both roles - are you really going to roll the dice and HOPE that you get to see them switched?

WHOA,kids! Wait a minute. The ticket prices at the THEATER are not $800.00. Top AMEX prices in presale were $250...which is steep enough so let's not get carried away with the price rumors.

The $800.00 prices quoted in this thread are TICKET BROKER prices. Just like the Producers at the height of the craze was getting $1500 per seat from a ticket broker or on eBay...the actors and producers of the show don't get this money. These are ticket broker agencies (in other words, legitimized scalpers)

If you have to have a ticket and you have the money...you pay their prices.

When I said that I was talking about the standard price of $100. I can't afford that and getting anything lower will be next to impossible. I just don't think it's worth the effort anymore. Broadway has priced me out of the market! I still love theatre - but now it's just Off-B'way and any deals I might be able to scrounge up on TKTS. This show won't be on either.

Mamie, I do know what you mean about Broadway ticket prices. They are outrageous. I have passed on several shows I'd LOVE to see over the past 2-3 years because every show seems to get more and more expensive.

I now save my money for the 'must sees' only and even THEN if they hit at the wrong time, I have to pass on those.

What I was talking about in my post about the $800 seats was that people posting on the thread seemed to have interpreted the $800 seat comment as the price the theater was charging...and that is not what is happening. These are ticket broker prices.

From the Daily News today:

'To err is Post-like

Could the New York Post have gotten it wrong yet again?

Last week, The New York Times said the discount digest had wrongly reported that financier Robert Weil was buying Adelaide de Menil's 40-acre Amagansett, L.I., oceanfront estate for $90 million - which would've been the highest price yet paid for a residential property in the country.

It would have been, that is, had it been true.

A day later, another Postie claimed that Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick would switch roles as Oscar and Felix when "The Odd Couple" hits Broadway in October.

But Broderick told The News' Joe Dziemianowicz that it wasn't happening.

"No," said the talented-to-his-toes actor, who'll play the neat Felix. "Only if we get really bored."

How could ennui have set in already, before they've even rehearsed?'

Okay - I am really confused....

I have been going to NYC for theater trips since 1987. What is the deal with this TicketsNow.com site? How is it that they got so many tickets for the Odd Couple when we little serfs couldn't get one ticket when they went on sale for the "general public".

Did the producers of this show bypass regular ticketmaster outlet to sell in the "secondary agent" market? This sounds very suspicious to me.

Anyone got any insight? I thought the code word on sites like Ticketmaster were meant to keep wholesale ticket resellers from shutting out individual purchasers like us. What gives?

They buy their tickets during the group sales period, which runs BEFORE the general public sale (and the AMEX pre-sale). I have a theory that's why tickets were scarce even during the pre-sale. The brokers went through and bought up 20+ tickets at a time.

I should have done that... and then sold them on ebay... I hate to say 'I told you so...' but...
