Tracey Ullman in remake of "Once Upon A Mattress". I think she has the comic ability, but she's a bit long in the tooth for the role.

And do we REALLY believe that she only got the part because Marissa turned it down?? No one outside of Broadway fans know who she is. Tracy will pull in ratings. Marissa would not.
I feel SO stupid for asking this.
What does long in the toothe mean?
It means "old." I don't know why.

Long in the tooth means 'elderly; old', and by extension 'past one's prime; over the hill'.
The expression derives from horses, of all things. As horses age, their gums recess, which is the origin of the practice of examining a horse's teeth to determine its age (and therefore value), a sort of early version of kicking the tires. (Horse traders, like used-car salesman, are not to be trusted.) An old horse's gums will have recessed so much that the roots of the teeth are visible, thus making the teeth appear longer--hence long in the tooth to mean 'old', and hence used figuratively paralleling figurative senses of 'old' such as 'past one's prime'.

I do think she seems a little old. Though I'm totally excited about Carol Burnett. I hope ABC does better with this movie than they did with The Music Man. Oh did they do that Annie movie too? The possibility of this being a good movie is getting much more slim.....
Tracy Ullman can put on a wig and some makeup and look like a 10 year old girl. There really isn't anything she can't do. If you need proof of that, turn on HBO and watch any episode of Tracy Takes On...
Actually, people's gums also recede with age.
And yes, ABC has not done well with the TV versions of Broadway shows.

I like Tracy Ullman though - hopefully it'll work out. Can she sing? I guess you don't have to have a pretty voice to be Winnifred though, but I wonder if she has any musical experience.
I really hope ABC doesn't totally ruin this....
Hmmm...will Victor Garber be in it? They seem to find a part for him in ALL of the ABC musicals.
Well if Victor's gonna be in it, they have to let Audra in!
I liked both Annie and The Music Man... maybe I am just an idiot... although Matthew Broderick was pretty horrible, but you gotta love Clyde Alves!! My Canadian boy... oy
Please, give us a break from Victor this once. Audra can play though.
I love Victor Garber.
I cannot tell you what I would give to see a video of the Broadway production of ART with Victor Garber, Alan Alda, and Alfred Molina.
Man, oh man.
I bet it was spectacular.
I know I'm in the minority, but Victor Garber just puts me to sleep. Always has. Sorry.

I'm with you Rathnait! For once spare us from Victor Garber. Liked him in Titanic ... but that was about it. Maybe he'd be good on stage, but come one ABC there has to be someone else in your casting file!
He puts me to sleep on stage too, Shesings.

Has there been an ABC musical movie that Victor Garber has not been in? I cant think of any.

I thought that this ...MATTRESS was a CBS project, w/ Carol Burnett as Queen Aggravain.
Burnett will play the Queen.

Aaagghhh Music Man was terrible. It aired about two weeks before my school put on The Music Man and at the next rehearsal our director was like PLEASE DONT FOLLOW ANYTHING THEY DID. That was horrendous...I can't believe Matthew Broderick did that bad...and Kristin Chenoweth looked so OLD.

Yes, Ullman can sing. She sang all the time on The Tracey Ullman Show. She also had a hit record before anyone in the U.S. knew her as an actress. I can't recall the name of the song, but Paul McCartney was in the video with her. This was back in the days when MTV actually played music videos.
For you youngsters, Paul McCartney is a singer who was once in a very popular group called The Beatles.
I thought he was more known for Wings.
