I think that's great! It's about time that performers start taking their shows on the road. Have all the tour stops been officially announced yet? (other than the ones listed in the story)
Here's the text...
Little Women, the Broadway musical adaptation of Louise May Alcott's beloved novel, is getting ready to hit the road. A 30-city national tour of the show will start August 30 in San Diego, with Broadway star Maureen McGovern recreating her acclaimed turn as matriarch Marmee.
"I'm delighted to be taking this beloved character on the road," McGovern told Broadway.com. "I know that audiences across the country will embrace the show in the same way they have on Broadway." As for the rigors of the road, McGovern said she's more than prepared: "I've lived my whole life on the road! In fact, for the first six years of my career, I didn't have a home anywhere. I literally lived out of seven suitcases. This is old hat for me!"
Prior to Little Women, McGovern appeared on Broadway in The Pirates of Penzance, Nine and 3 Penny Opera and in the national tour of The King and I. Regionally, she's been seen in Elegies, Dear World, Letters from 'Nam, The Lion in Winter, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Of Thee I Sing, Let 'Em Eat Cake!, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Guys and Dolls and I Do, I Do. A two-time Grammy nominee, McGovern has recorded 25 solo albums and is best known for the Oscar-winning single "The Morning After" from the film The Poseidon Adventure.
Little Women will debut at the Civic Theatre in San Diego from August 30 to September 4 and continue with stops in San Jose, Columbus, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale and Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, among other cities.
A replacement for McGovern in the Broadway company of Little Women will be announced at a future date. Little Women also stars Sutton Foster, Megan McGinnis, Jenny Powers, Amy McAlexander, Danny Gurwin, John Hickok, Jim Weitzer, Janet Carroll and Robert Stattel.

She has seven suitcases??? Somebody has a clothes fetish!
Sorry, Rath.
God, if the tour starts on August 30, she'll have been in the Broadway production for all of ten minutes.
Right, Namo? That's hot!

Come with her Rath! I can't wait to see her (again).
I just might have to, Joe. She can't carry all that luggage by her little self.
i wonder what date she will be leaving the broadway production now.
The show will probably play better and attract larger audiences than in NY.
The ad posters and pics will probably mention The Poseidon Adventure. Bets, anyone?
You know they will, Rath.
*shudders*
"At this performance, the role of Jo will be played by Shelley Winters."
oh NO you di - n't!!!!!
You know I did!
Seriously, I'll tell my sister in Philly to go see it, try not to focus on the book or the lyrics, and just be transfixed by Maureen.
BTW, since we're kicking people out of NY, can Amy McAlexander to the gulag?
"Seriously, I'll tell my sister in Philly to go see it, try not to focus on the book or the lyrics, and just be transfixed by Maureen."
Do you really have to tell anyone that? I believe it just happens naturally.
I think Harvey Fierstein should replace Maureen when she leaves NY.
The Little Women tour is slated to stop in Atlanta next spring. I wonder if Ms. McGovern will stay with the tour that long?

I can't wait for the Chicago dates - I'm SO EXCITED. Eeee Maureen. Excuse me while I go listen to Of Thee I Sing.
I'm sorry we're taking her from you, Rath, but I promise we'll take excellent care of her and send her back as good as ever to you :)
ahhhhhhhhh i am so excited its coming to ft lauderdale ahhhhh
I would only be excited about the show coming locally if the show and songs were rewritten. The show was mediocre at best in my opinion.
