The New York Post's Michael Riedel is reporting the departure of Tony Award-nominee Jan Maxwell from the Off-Broadway production of Entertaining Mr. Sloane.

The columnist cites the actress' dissatisfaction with co-star Alec Baldwin as her reason for leaving. He writes, that she "wrote in an e-mail to a friend that Baldwin's frequent temper tantrums - including putting his fist through a wall because the air conditioning wasn't high enough - also caused her to fear for her 'safety, mental health and artistic integrity.'" The bad vibes between the stars reportedly reached a peak when Baldwin changed Maxwell's blocking by holding a door out of which the actress exited so that she was unable to slam it shut.

Kim Basinger may be a little "off", but it sounds as if she's right about that maniac!
Good god... it's her word against his. We can't possibly know the whole story so why does everybody have to be so quick to hate Alec Baldwin?
um, because he admitted that he did it?
He admitted to putting his fist through the wall. All I'm saying is that none of us can possibly know everything that transpired between Baldwin and Maxwell. And I'm not going to rely on the writing of Michael Riedel to convince me.
True, it's her word against his. But, admitting you put your fist through a wall is a sign for some sort of anger problem.

It's just in Jan's personality to make up something like this. She is a very credible and talented actress not to mention a kind person. There is not much she would leave a show for!
I'm not going to deny that he seems to have anger issues. He's Irish for crying out loud!

I'm sure he'll devote an entire column to it on Huffington Post.
Still loved Baldwin in the show, more than Maxwell. He's likely no bowl of dip to work with. Rumor has it, he and Ms. Lange weren't tight during STREETCAR.

Funny, when I read this thread, I thought perhaps the original Mr. Sloane, Maxwell C, appearing up town, took in a matinee or some such and left because he didn't like Alec!

heh. that'd be too funny, auggie.
I think Lange has had problems w/ other people she's worked w/ on stage as well. Look what happened w/ Dallas Roberts.

When Jan was in Chitty she got along with everyone and everyone loved her! She spent time getting to know the entire cast (and it was a huge cast). I have heard from several friends that she is a joy to work with. I believe it!
I worked on the play where she met her now-husband. She was very easy to work with and delightful to be around.

Jan Maxwell has got to be one of the most delightful women I've met. I know for a fact she was well-loved by the Chitty cast, particularly the children. I honestly don't see how you couldn't get along with her.

Somebody I know worked crew for Chitty and he swears that he was backstage one night and when Jan thought nobody was looking she unhinged her jaw and ingested a large, LIVE guinea pig.

My friend swears it's true and the fact is, appearances can be deceiving.

OT, that reminds me of that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond when Robert's seemingly perfect date who, upon finishing dinner, thinking no one is looking, catches a fly, pops it in her mouth and eats it. Ray's expression upon seeing this is seriously one of the funniest things I have EVER seen on TV.
Someone maybe needs to go into a anger management class

Sounds like it to me. It just sucks that she would have to leave because of his anger. But I guess money makes the world go 'round and he can sell more tickets even though she is the more talented one (in my book!)
we really need look no further than the fact Baldwin ADMITTED he punched a hole in a wall. Regardless of whether you sweat or not, please control yourself.
Word, Gretchen. WORD.
