McGillin as Phantom

GRRR. As much as I LOVE Hugh Panaro, I've been dying to see Howard McGillin (since they seem to bring him in for Panaro's vacations) but I'm going to be out of town AGAIN this time! GRR. Not that I want Panaro out of there, nor would I trade his performance for anyone else's but I REALLY wanted to see McGillin...

Loved him in a bunch of shows...Anything Goes, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and even Bounce.
BUT...out of about ten Phantoms that I have seen over the years, Howard McGillin was my least favorite. Don't know where they stuck the mic, but he sounded like Brenda Vacarro on those Playtex tampon commercials.

I saw both Panaro and McGillin and I liked McGillin better than Panaro during "Music of the Night" but Panaro made me cry by the end of the show and McGillin didn't so I don't know what that shows but its what happened.

Howard McGillin was an awsome Phantom! I've seen him a number of times.

I don't know why they keep bringing McGillin back. They've got a perfectly wonderful understudy (James Romick) who could fill in while Panaro is away. I enjoyed McGillin's performance just fine (for the most part) but, geez, enough is enough! This production is very big on recycling cast members. I can't remember the last time there was a truly new Christine (or any other role for that matter). They just keep coming back again and again... and it's not as if these are big, well-known names. How about an unknown next time? That might be nice, no?

I've seen both McGillin and Panaro, among other many others, as the Phantom, but I tend to like Panaro's better. Hugh is more fluid and natural on stage than Howard, and personally, I think he also has a better voice. Howard tends not to anunciate as well as Hugh when he sings. Not to mention that Hugh's such a sweetie off-stage too! :)

I would love to see Romick play the Phantom one day though. From what I hear, he's a great understudy for the Phantom.

howard is a phenominal phantom. he has such passion when in character and he brings the audience to tears! He took me and my friend on a backstage tour too! i love this man!
