Seems the daily dose of Wicked and Spring Awakening has overshadowed this significant development.
Lynne Meadow will take a 2007-2008 sabbatical from her position of artistic director at the Manhattan Theatre Club. The great Daniel Sullivan will take her place.
Good luck to Ms. Meadow in whatever endeavors she has planned and good luck to Mr. Sullivan with the new season.

Has this ever happened before? Granted it's well deserved for someone with 34 seasons at the helm.

I've heard of other long-time artistic directors taking a break before -- sometimes for health reasons, and other times because they wanted time to write a play or direct a project outside of their theatre.
I love Daniel Sullivan and hope he directs at least one of their plays in 2007-2008. His involvement may actually spur me to subscribe to MTC next year for the first time in a couple of seasons.
