I think Rene Auberjonois could play the Gene Wilder role perfectly.

The problem is, he has a really hard act to follow - The Producers. It's going to have to be *wow* to gain any support from the critics, the expectation will be HUGE. Plus, is he going to do all of his films into shows? Why not just do an original one?

Haven't we had enough movies being made into musicals? Assuming that "Hairspray" wins this year, we'll have had 3 Tony's in a row going to Broadway-ized old movies.
I think in the old days it was the reverse -- successful Broadway shows got made into movies.
Doubt the critics , no matter how good it is , will give him 2 set of rave reviews in row. They probably feel he needs to be taken down a peg. We shall see ......

What style of music do you think he has composed? I have always pictured it being a sort of On the 20th Century style score, except for Puttin' on the Ritz.
