Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

Season announced next Wednesday night.

The Drowsy Chaperone is the first show of the season.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Geoffery Rush as the Man In The Chair

Marina Prior has been cast as well

Geoffrey Rush will be really good!

Marina will do the Sutton Foster role, no doubt. I think she'll do it well.

Looks like a trip to Melbourne is in order.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

Marina is playing Kitty. There is no way that Marina Prior could pull off the kind of feats required of the Janet role. Others in the cast are rumoured to be Richard Piper and Robyn Nevin (WTF?).

Lucy Durack would've been great at Janet van de Graff, but she'll still be in Wicked.

Robyn Nevin could easily play the Chaperone.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

Robyn Nevin isn't exactly known for her sense of humour. She is playing Mrs Tottendale a role that requires her to do spit takes and play the ukelele. Both of which I would have thought outside her talent realm.

Lucy Durack couldn't pull off Janet (thank God she is contracted to WICKED). That role has gone to someone (can't think of her name) that was in The Production Company's THE BOYFRIEND.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

I'd love to see Geraldine Turner as the Chaperone, and Chloe Dallimore (was she in Boyfriend?) as Janet. Richard Piper could be Feldzieg?

Anyone know if the MTC will be using the original Gallo set design?

With Geoffrey Rush, Marina Prior and Robyn Nevin attached, plus obviously others to come, this is shaping up to be an amazing production.

My partner and I were lucky enough to see the entire original cast on Broadway. I think Adolfo will be very tough to cast.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

No, Shane will be a good pastry chef brother/gangster - but they will need to find someone of a similar build to play his brother. Grant Piro will do Adolfo, I suspect - I saw him to Carmen Ghia in THE PRODUCERS and he was quite excellent.

rosscoe(au), could you please change the title of this thread to THE DROWSY CHAPERONE so people will know - we're not really covering the MTC season here so far.

Shane Jacobson is the only person I've seen who failed to get an ovation of any sort with his Sit Down You're Rockin The Boat. Talk about flat.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

His Sit Down was rather, well yeah.

As for the rest of the season, apart from Ruhl's Dead Mans Cell Phone, there really is not a lot that makes want to see any of it. Which is disapointing.

You obviously didn't see the Broadway revival. Ugh.

He got standing ovations a couple of times I saw the show in Sydney and Melbourne.

They've got some duplicates with the Sydney season. A couple of things stand out for me, no Streetcar mentioned on their schedule and am interested to see All About My Mother.

Streetcar will not be a co production and if it's too happen it will go somewhere like the Comedy. An anouncement for it wont be until at least years end of early next year.

I thought Shane was one of the best people in GUYS & DOLLS. No-one got an ovation for any song when I saw it, but every song went down very well.

I think he'll be great in TDC.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

Heidi Arena as the Chaperone? Hells no - she's way too inexperienced in musical theatre, and is a little young (and by "little young", I mean "20 years young".

I'd expect her to play Kitty, and Marina Prior to play Chaperone, but alterego has already said that Marina Prior is playing Kitty.

Maybe she's a fierce dancer and will play Janet?

Anyone else think Shane Jacobsen would be great as Adolpho?

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

I'd heard another name for Janet. Marina Prior as the Chaperone? Surely not. That role is well beyond her limited range.

re: Melbourne Theatre Company 2010

Well, if she's not Kitty, Chaperone or Janet, then she might just be in the ensemble (there was a four member ensemble in the original production).
