I saw that it is part of the La Jolla Playhouse season and wanted to know if anyone knows anything about it......

Is that the musical about the white radio guy (can't remember his name) who played "black" songs on the radio and there was a big uproar? It's playing in Seattle later this season as well. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I do know that the disc jockey, you speak of, was the inspiration for THE WIZ. very interesting.

I assume it's about Memphis? that's all I have.

Memphis had its world premiere in 2004 at Theatreworks in Mountain View, CA. I remember enjoying the show, but don't remember too much else. The link will take you to an old review from when it was playing here. If I was going to be in La Jolla, I would see it again.

That review lost credibility for me when it said "we're on the west side of Memphis." If you're o the west side of Memphis, you're in the Mississippi River or in AR. Beale Street is downtown.
