This is a silly question, but it has been nagging me for a couple weeks, since I saw a production of Memphis. When Huey's mother gives him a key near the end of the show, is it the key to the apartment? (Thereby implying she has to give it up?) Or was that moment in the Broadway show? Wikipedia didn't help me!
Thanks
I think it is the key to the house Huey buys his mother, as he can no longer keep up the payments.

I agree. The house is another loss as his career declines. I saw the B'way version and thought the mom was a little too cheerful about it, giving the moment an odd sensibility and could cause some confusion.
