He's too fat to sit on the Angel at the end of Act 1

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I don't think weight is a problem for him now....and in the past when he has been a bit overweight, he's lost it rather quickly. It would seem to me that the physicality of the role would have anyone drop weight just in rehersals.

With that glorious voice he'd be terrific.

Wow, Anthony Warlow has an incredible voice. I had fears of Hugh Panaro coming crashing down on my head when he was on the angel in "All I Ask of You". He was directly over me and I had freaky visions of it just snapping loose and falling down, like the chandelier. But that's completely off-topic.

You don't think that he could do it even if he were heavier? Why couldn't the Phantom be heavy? I would loveto hear him sing the Phantom's songs.

I seem to recall that Shuler Hensley played the Phantom in Germany (I think). He is def. larger and I imagine that he could be great in the role. I say let the big boys (that are vocally and dramatically capabale) have a stab at the wearing the mask.

I think hate is too strong to use when offering a critique of a performer or performance. I think when offering an opinion it should be based on how the reviewer sees the performance, not personal bias towards or against said performer. I personally like Michael Ball and a slew of other Broadway and West End stars. Some of these performers both on Broadway and in the West End, based on their sheer popularity, keep a lot of people working. That in turn keeps shows open and people off unemployment. Just an opinion though

I saw Michael Ball in "Aspects of Love" back in 1989. He was wonderful. I would love to see him as the Phantom :)

The thing to remember about the Maria Zamora recording is as far as Michael was concerned the songs on this album he contributed to,were actually demo's.They were then later remixed and put on to the album (he said he took no responsibility for them).I love him singing this with Claire Moore or Celia Graham.I would like to hear him sing it with Emma williams sometime to.

Could he do the role YES!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain; Who understands the secret of the reaping of the grain, Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, Or why we all must die a bit before we grow again. -from "The Fantasticks"
