I am not sure if this has been previously mentioned on this board, but Michael Ball, the West End star who has also appeared on Broadway in ASPECTS OF LOVE, will be singing the lead role at the New York City Opera in the season's presentation of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, PATIENCE. If so, I would like to add that single tickets are now being sold for the 8 performances scheduled in September and early October. The performances are scheduled at the New York State Theatre at Lincoln Center.

It is interesting to note that Michael's first major role in musical theatre was singing the role of Frederic in another Gilbert and Sullivan operetta PIRATES OF PENZANCE. It was where Cameron Mackintosh and Trevor Nunn discovered his talent and golden voice and cast him in the original production of LES MISERABLES in the role of Marius.
A great chance for New Yorkers to hear him sing live again

You beat me to it Jo. I was going to post a reminder about this this morning :0)
Not quite back on Broadway...but at least we've got him back in NYC.

Which is most assuredly a step in the right direction...

I did see ASPECTS OF LOVE with Michael at the West End and on Broadway. I still have some video clips from those days - the TONY Awards number featuring the entire cast singing LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING while providing a quick synopsis of the entire show, Michael and Ann Crumb singing Seeing is Believing very early on the TODAY show, and one of Michael singing Love Changes Everything on Good Morning America
Thanks for providing the link on that thread
Jo
Thanks for the reminder...went to the box office today and got tickets for the 9-10 performance...can't wait!
Funny role to put him in. I think he'd do much better as Archibald Grosvenor.
I watched the Australian cast DVD of Patience recently, and could see Michael playing either role. But I think he will do a fine job as Bunthorne.

Bunthorne is quite an interesting role. After seeing Michael as the deceptively villainous Count Fosco in THE WOMAN IN WHITE, I'm game to see him handling different and unusual roles on stage.

I am looking forward to seeing this G&S production.
Theatre fans take note:
There is a mini scene in Stoppard's INVENTION OF LOVE that parodies Bunthorne in a scene from PATIENCE, and who himself is a parody of Oscar Wilde.
