Yes, I have more than one show going on...
From Michael Butler, the award-winning original producer of HAIR on BROADWAY
Passion, piety, and the enticement of power spark a once in a lifetime historic event. Based on the enduring account of a young scholar's rise to the papacy, and brought to life by the original producer of HAIR on Broadway, this musical extravaganza unleashes one of the most controversial stories in the history of mankind.
A cast of 25 professionals, an award winning team, and a live six-piece orchestra create this stunning premiere.

"a live six piece orchestra"???
That's a band not an orchestra,
or maybe a sextet,
and hardly a selling point.

Vaguely interesting subject matter. Not the best treatment. Go to the link below for a glimpse at an earlier version of the show, including some written scenes and a sound clip of at least one song. If it hasn't improved much since then, it ain't gonna get better, let's put it that way.
The Pope Joan Workshop Web

The workshop was than 12 years ago and they have gone through some major changes.
Why do people feel the need to bash a show they know nothing about?
The pictures are coming. I'll take some tonight at the dress.

I was bashing the press release not the show.
It seems to have been written by an idiot.

Where are you hearing lyrics?
If they are from the workshop link, please ignore that as that workshop, as I have already said, was 12 years ago and the show has gone through MAJOR changes.
"and hardly a selling point."
Unfortunately, most 99-seat productions, the MOST you'll get is piano, bass and drums. So it sort of is a selling point.

OK, sort of a selling point, but not really an orchestra.
Who's in it?
re: Michael Butler Presents: Pope Joan, A Musical Of Passion , Los Angeles#10
Posted: 1/11/09 at 2:37pmYes, they're from the workshop link. Good to know that they've been changed, though I'd have to hear the new ones, of course.

Curtian,
It's a cast of THOUSANDS (Well, 26) and if you follow my link in my first post (I fixed it) it will take you to a page for the new show. On the left hand side, there is a link to cast and crew. It's got bios and pictures (including mine).

Posted: 1/11/09 at 4:19pmI wish the production well but completely OT - one of the worst books I ever read was the novel called "Pope Joan" that came out about six years ago. I kept wondering how many editors at the publishing house were summarily executed for publishing such dreck.

Nice site.
The logo is sort of Equusish, is there any nudity in this production?

I'll find out tonight!
I was in for the first time yesterday and I was off in a room combing hair, so I didn't see or hear any of it.
I'll give you a better idea of things after tonights tech.
The set looks JUST like the picture of the model. IT's pretty amazing in that little theatre.

I'm coming out to LA to see PIPPIN and MINSKYS, maybe I will check it out.
There seems to be a lot of theatre going on in LA right now!

Damn, it's still not letting me load pictures...
Anyway, the show is a total cross of JCSS/EVITA. WE had one tech rehearsal on Sunday night that went smoother than any show I've ever worked on!
The story had so many layers, and I really think it's going to be a great show. The relationship between Joan and her lover, who ends up heading up the army to fight her, the jealous Cardinals who want to be the next Pope, one of the Popes followers (thinking she's a guy) falling in love with her and not understanding why...
It really says something about the church that they went so far to cover up the fact that this person exsisted.
I took a ton of pictures, but nothing is uploading on this site for some reason.
If you are on Facebook, the show has it's own page, Pope Joan, The Musical. Become a fan and you can see a few of the pictures I posted. And there is SLIGHT nudity in the show. The King has his shirt off at the top of the show and at the end of act I there is a very powerful image that loks quite a bit like the poster, but I'm not giving anything away.
Tomorrow I start STORMY WEATHER and have a 13 hour day ahead of me.
Oy!

Also off topic:
There was a 70s movie called Pope Joan which starred Liv Ullman and that was a huge financial disaster and critical laughingstock. No one went to see it. It ran maybe a week in NY.
Another off-topic point and this may be an urban legend: it is said that after a Pope is elected in the conclave, his private parts are inspected in some non-invasive way to assure the other cardinals that he is indeed male. Pope Joan was the reason for this visual.
You go, girl.
