How do you contact this guy? He doesn't have a website, correct? I really want the sheet music for "I Don't Hear the Ocean" but I can't find it anywhere w/o buying the entire book.

is my new favorite composer. His stuff is BRILLIANT!

That being said, I have no answer to your question.

He reads the boards, so he may see this and PM you with a way to reach him.

It's really rude to ask people to give out his e-mail address without his permission...

He didn't ask for his e-mail address, just for a way to contact him. Get over yourself.

I'm just sayin'.... He doesn't have to ask for it, we all knew what he was implying.

But the vocal score. It's worth it.

It's definitely worth the money. Besides, if you love the guy's music support him by buying it!

The Vocal score isn't widely published, but there are ways to get it. I would think that talking to LaChiusa might be the best way to do that. I think he'd be willing to give it out. If you can't find him and you absolutely need it, I know where you can get it. I'd rather have LaChiusa know about it first.

Oh wait!!! Edit!! I just realized this IS in the book. Seriously, go to amazon.com buy it used for 9.99 it really won't hurt you to have to whole thing. It's 10 bucks. It's less than a haircut...buy the damn book.

I already got it offline, I paid for it. I just didn't see the point in buying the book because I'm only wanting like 4 pages out of it. I did that for Wild Party and kinda wish I had just bought the single song. Anyways, Theatertrash, I didnt' want his personal - at home email. Just like where fans can reach him, so calm down. I thought maybe he had a website and I just didnt realize it. I'm going to buy the CD of Marie Christine though. I think itd be a good introduction to his style of music.

I will have to say NO to that.

Marie Christine is brilliance beyond brilliance...BUT...The Wild Party may be easier to begin with.

Ya think? I have Lippa's wild party and its just more my style of musical theater. I like the contemporary sounds etc. I'm more drawn to Marie Christine though. I dunno why. why would you say Wild Party is easier?

Oh.

Well, MC is more operatic, slower....seems more off-putting to people.

You should try HELLO AGAIN.

Bram, I loved the Wild Party, but after that, I am not familiar with the rest of his music. What would you suggest? I admit I would like to hear Marie Christine, but never heard Hello Again. Any suggestion?

what's Hello Again about. I'm going to the Virgin Megastore this weekend in Orlando, so I'm going to buy a few albums. I wanna get something LaChiusa because I haven't been open to him yet.

I actually don't find Marie Christine slow or Operatic. It's just different. people tend to be resistant to different and new. Wild Party for some reason is easier to grasp for some reason. It's not as dark as MC believe it or not. Which is interesting. If you don't want WP I say go with Hello Again like BsoBW3 says.

Hello Again is about a series of Sexual Encounters. I find the way it was performed (through dance/movement rather than overt gratuitous sex) and structured intriguing. It's a great "start" I guess. Although I heard Marie Christine first and fell in love. It depends on your tastes and who you are. Updated On: 2/6/06 at 12:39 AM

Well, after TWP (which actually took me some time to get into it...but now it is my favorite score, with Caroline, or Change).

I went on to MC. I didn't think I'd like it. Not really my style. Damn LaChiusa! One listen, all it took. I was hooked.

Hello Again was next. I enjoyed bits, but I just don't like the CD because of the way it is split up.

But, I bought the script to the show and followed along...it makes much more sense with the added dialogue and all. (Same with Marie Christine - reading the synopsis and lyrics included in the booklet.)

Next was, one I can't say.

Then came First Lady Suite. Not my favorite, to be honest. I enjoy it. Not like the other ones. I think it is something you need to experience live.

yeah, but i'm very drawn to dark interesting theater. and the darkness of MC draws me into it. I dont like "light" throw away type theater.

Next was one you can't say?! WHat's that about. If at all possible go to the Lincoln Center Library and view Hello Again. It makes total sense and is a FABULOUS piece of theatre. It's so beautiful to me.

yeah what's that about B? I think I'm just going to go with MC. It seems more interesting to me, although Hello Again sounds kinda interesting too. I wish I could get up to Lincoln Center, but living down in Alabama, that doesn't happen much if ever.

B - I just really got into Caroline or Change. I can see why it wasn't all that successful because its a tough listen. I think the score is brillant and - as much as I love Wicked - think it should have won best score. its so intricate and different. Most ppl wouldn't want to sit through all the recitative - speak singing - because there aren't many like solo type songs or arias. I wish I could see it in London. or wherever. "I dont like "light" throw away type theater."

Trust me. None of LaChiusa's work is light, throw away theatre. (Maybe Petrified Prince....re: Michael John LaChiusa)

Even his opera - LOVERS & FRIENDS - his vocally operatic, but musically theatrical. Beautiful.

I wouldn't discourage MC at all, I would just also recommend the beauty of HELLO AGAIN. It starts off a bit slow. Sexy, but slow. But it really gets into it...and then when you go back to the beginning, it is just perfect.

Marie Christine was my LaChiusa introduction. I don't find it alienating in the least.

Hello Again is a musicalized adaptation of the play La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler (Hare's The Blue Room was a nonmusical adapation of La Ronde). But in LaChiusa's production, each scene involves Americans in different decades. The CD is excellent, though I wish there were a complete recording as there is a lot of wonderful material not included that truly shows the brilliance of the book and score. The last time I saw the show, I was surprised to discover there was an all-new Scene Eight (Silent Movie) which featured a new song for The Actress. If I remember correctly, it was a flapper-style number. I actually liked the Silent Movie sequence much better. I was lucky enough to play The Young Thing in a production of the show in 1996 and I was making discoveries of hidden gems in the score daily. It was a wonderful experience.

for accessibility to LaChuisa, I would suggest this progression of CDs:

1) Hello Again (a lot of different styles)
2) Wild Party
3) First Lady Suite
4) Marie Christine (BRILLIANCE!)

Don't f*ck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo.
