Posted: 6/4/05 at 4:52pmI just have to mention how amazed I was with Michael McGrath's performance in Spamalot. His percussion ability (those coconuts!), singing, dancing-----just so enjoyable. I only later realized that he was nominated for a Tony. Very well deserved nomination (imo)!

Posted: 6/4/05 at 5:16pmI think of the 3 supporting males, Chris Borle should have been nom instead of Michael McGrath. Michael is great, but I think Chris' comic ability really makes Spam a lot better than it would have been without him.

Posted: 6/4/05 at 5:24pmI agree that Chris Borle is also wonderful. His comic talent and his dancing (I'm not dead yet) were amazing. What a great supporting cast.

Posted: 6/4/05 at 5:27pmYes Christian should have been nominated but I think Michael is MORE than deserving of his nomination. Oddly, the night before the nominations were announced I told my friend "If I could have my way Michael McGrath would be nominated." He's fantastic.

Posted: 6/4/05 at 5:31pmhe pulls off a great performance. that having been said, I'd be surprised if he gets even a single actual vote with the tight field this year.

And most people mispronounce his last name...
It is pronounced McGraw

I've had a soft spot for Michael McGrath ever since I saw him go on for Evan Pappas in "My Favorite Year" back in 1992. He did a fabulous job, and I never forgot him. I was delighted to see him cast in "Spamalot", and I just loved his performance. Bravo to him.

No kidding?? I had no idea. If I'm ever lucky enough to meet him, I'll have to remember that...

For what it's worth - I was passing by the theatre Thursday night and thought that it would be nice to get their autographs on a Playbill. Since I hadn't gone to the show, I was right there when the guys came out to set up the barricades. One of them brought me a Playbill. About 15 min. later, Mike Nichols walked by and promised he'd sign when he left. 5 min. after that, Chris Sieber and then Mike McGrath came out. What incredibly nice guys they are! By that time I'd been joined by what seemed like 500 people and they stayed and chatted and posed for photos with all.
David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria came out right after them and they acted the very same way. They stayed until every poster, program, playbill, Spam can, and coconut shell was signed. And they must have posed for 50 photos with their fans.
(Unfortunately neither Tim Curry nor Mike Nichols ever emerged from the theatre and my broken ankle wouldn't let me wait any longer for them.)
It was so nice to see these guys, obviously at the top of their popularity with this show, being so generous and friendly with their fans.
A click for life.

My story, just thought I'd chime in:
I was there April 19, Tim Curry's birthday. Michael McGrath performed in the 1st act, but it was announced at intermission that he couln't continue and his understudy went on to perform "The Bright Side Of Life" and all in act2. He was quite good, but just watching Michael's motions and expressions in act1 was enough for me to appreciate his talents. Afterward, Micheal came out and signed for everyone anyway, and got a very nice reception.
The birthday boy also came out and signed, and I got to talk to him. I told him was a long time fan (we're about the same age) and he just looked at me and smiled. That moment will stand out as a high light for me forever.
And all those mentions of Christian Borle, I totally aggree, he was terrific!

I just bought tickets to see it again in May and I'm hoping to see Mike M. perform again. (And Christian, Hank, David, etc.,)
What an amazing cast! I hope they all renew their contracts to stay with the show until well into 2006.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 9:36pmHe was truly wonderful! McGrath was definitely in my top three guys of the show - with Borle and Sieber. His stage presence in "...Bright Side of Life" was just outstanding! A perfect Patsy.
