Posted: 1/8/04 at 3:51pmI can let you know after Feb 14th (although I have never seen it before so I won't have any comparisons).

Posted: 1/8/04 at 4:51pmShe's terrible. Sounds like Macy Gray and moves around like a deranged stork, bobbing her head scarily.

She really isn't all that bad. If you walk into the theater looking for another Heather, Simone or Paulette, indeed you will be TERRIBLY disappointed. However, if you have never seen the show - or at least have an open mind - you may just walk away with a great deal of respect and appreciation for Michelle's talent and impressive vocal range.
YES, she does sound like the love child of Macy Gray and The Chipmunks...I found this to be very unique, not irritating.
TRUE, she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag - but let's not forget that she's a gospel/R&B singer first, not an actress.
I've seen the show many, many, many times and I found Michelle to be a nice break from the norm - as was Toni Braxton. Furthermore, it was nice to see her as something other than Beyonce's backup singer. :-o
Have fun & enjoy the show!

Hmm...I got mixed reviews. Like crp said, a good friend of mine went, and loved her and told me she was amazing. She has never heard any of the other Aida's and had never seen the show, so she was pretty impressed. I think I would be disappointed, because I've heard Headley and was blown away.
I'm doing AIDA rush this weekend, and I'm DEF. getting in:
a) because I'm going to be there at 8:30 in the morning, half an hour before the box office opens.
b) Because the weather this weekend in New York City is going to be in the teens, if not colder.
I'm seeing a Saturday matinee which will be performed by Saycon Sengbloh, who I saw and liked at Broadway in Bryant Park, and got excellent reviews.

Posted: 1/8/04 at 8:17pmI saw the show 3 days after Michelle joined. I think she is great. 1st of all I'm a fan of destiny's child and all I think she has a wonderful voice. After I saw the show I bought th OBC Aida cd and I had to get use to hearing the other voices. I think Michelle did a pretty good job.

Posted: 1/9/04 at 12:53pmMichelle sang it well enough, but her attempts at "acting" were distracting. She was just a body on stage, sometimes flailing her hands around to convey distress. Contrasted with the Amneris I saw with her, Mandy Gonzalez, it was pathetic. When Mandy's Amneris experienced her revelation, I experienced it in waves of emotion radiating from her...while she herself was physically very still. Such a difference the art of acting makes.
