I saw on ATC that Minnie Driver is playing Carlotta in The Phantom Philm. What is the world coming to? Fist of all, what kind og a name is Minnie Driver? It sounds like a golf club at a miniate golf course. Second of all, can she sing?? Carlotta is supposed to be an opera diva.

Maybe this one should be under the scary casting thread?

I already had decided not to see the movie when they didn't cast Michael Crawford and when they decided to change so many things. This is not going to be the musical I fell in love with 15 years ago...I don't know WHAT it's going to be. What a shame that it has to be preserved on film this way...

It's alled an ADAPTION for a reason. If you just want to see the stage version preserved on film, go to the lincoln Center archives. Not casting Crawford?? People beside shim have played the Phantom... and played it better. Besides, he is too old for the role now. Give it a rest. There is life after Crawford.
Isn't Minnie Driver the woman who played Stan's mistress on Will & Grace?

Here she is in London

I never said there were others who didn't play Phantom well. And you can't just walk in and see those tapes at Lincoln Center. And I fail to see why wanting to see him in the movie means I don't have a life, it's merely my opinion. Get over yourself, you have no right to tell me anything like that. My life is quite full, this is just a bit of entertainment.
To aurora1958...yes I know how you feel. But we can't change it so let's just hope for the best and start mass-producing bootlegs of the OLC/OBC and the LA performance...or should I say the "Isn't he sexy?" LA bootleg with Michael Crawford and Mary D'Arcy. *lol*!!!

I think Minnie will be the driving force behind this movie.

Pun intended Dollypop? What ever has she been a driving force behind?

Minnie would be the driveing force behind a crash and burn I'm guessing.

I'm sure you meant that to be spelled: "d-r-i-v-i-n-g".
(Kindly learn to use your "edit" option. There's no excuse for bad spelling ot poor grammar on this message board!)
To MlleDaae: OH YES, I know Exactly what you mean!!! Or, in the final New York performance before he left for LA, someone in the audience screamed out "You are perfection!"... And I agree with you, hope for the best
Are you guys serious? Minnie Driver has been doing great work in film--Good Will Hunting with Best Supporting Actress nomination comes to mind.
The question should be whether or not she can sing. I'm sure she will act the part beautifully. But, does anyone know her to be able to sing opera?
As much as I like Minnie Driver I just don't see her playing that part. Maybe an older Meg?

... A MUCH older Meg.
I think we should give her a chance. She might be good.
