Posted: 6/26/03 at 10:38amOne hit with Chicago and they start buying up the rights to every show ever written. :) Not that I am entirely complaining or anything. I just want them to do a good job. On ALL of them.

I knew this would happen. One musical hit, and the frenzy is on. Reminds me of the glut of reality shows off the success of SURVIVOR.
PIPPIN as a film? Wow. I love that show...I saw the original cast, too. But...I'm glumly predicting that it won't translate well to the screen. I'm envisioning something along the lines of the film version of CAMELOT -- taking all the theatricality out of it, and instead we get a nature film full of wood nymphs. Oi.

Posted: 6/26/03 at 11:30amIf they put out too many movie musicals it'll kill the genre again. Here's hoping all these movie musicals don't get made...just a portion of them. I'm still waiting for Rent though...what's taking them so long? Why don't we hear info on this movie?

Posted: 6/26/03 at 11:43amBuying rights is NOT the same as starting a production. Many, many properties have had their rights sold off but that doesn't mean there's any specific intention of making the movie.

Posted: 6/26/03 at 12:03pmI believe Miramax owns the rights to RENT too. They've had them for quite some time. What's the holdup on the movie?

Posted: 6/26/03 at 5:19pmJohnPoppa is right. Lots of stuff gets optioned but not necc produced. Lets wait & see. Persoanlly i just think its cos alot of directors grew up on the old movie musicals( A genre which grew moribund) & now that someone has show a method of adamping the concept to the MTV generation everbody wants to flex their muscles & show they can too! A VERY large grain of salt from me!

Posted: 6/26/03 at 5:38pmIt does seem unlikely that it will ever be made...but I would LOVE to see it. All the productions I've seen from High School to Paper Mill were disappointing.

I hope they make Pippin as it is one of my favorite shows.
Yes!
It is an extraordinary musical. Wish it was on Broadway!

Posted: 6/26/03 at 10:12pmit's good...not a life or death thing if you don't hear it. it's just a 70s musical comedy that has some good dancing in it.

It also has a great score.
Corner Of The Sky is one of my favorite songs.
Hence Corine's Corner.
