re: Mirvish 09-10 Subscription Lineup Changes

Hello, I'm an Australian who has drifted over to this board and I'm interested to hear of the postponement of PRISCILLA.

I've never seen the venue it was supposed to play in Toronto but there could have been issues with sightlines. The set of PRISCILLA isn't huge, it is the bus that is big (the bus in London is a metre shorter than what was seen in Australia). Quite a lot of action happens either on top of the bus or involves the three singing Divas who voice a lot of the songs in the show who hover over it. If the theatre has a balcony which is low a lot of the audience may not be able to see what is going on. There were issues with this in London when the show opened there and subsequently TV monitors were installed to enable people at the rear to see what was going on. Maybe this is the reason for the delay, are the producers waiting for a theatre that has better sightlines? Just a thought.

Heard officially that Priscilla is cancelled completely and not postponed. Expect to see it opening on Broadway instead. I have a feeling my Billy Elliot prediction from earlier in this thread is becoming more of a reality.

I would be thrilled to see Billy here...I adore this show...made a trip to NYC to see it!

Funny. I do too, and what they told me yesterday was that it's postponed for some reworking and redesign to fix some problems, pretty much like alterego says in this thread. The Australian producers asked Mirvish for some extra time.

Well the principals that were cast have been told the show is a no go. That's a pretty good indication that it's not happening.

I heard cast for Priscilla where released.

It's a shame Chicago gets Billy... just saw it in New York and I can tell you that for sure the RAT could accommodate it if no other venues were available. For one thing, the Imperial's proscenium is only a couple feet wider (nearly 40') than the RAT's (38'). The RAT's prosc opening is a full ten feet taller than the Imperial's, and the depth of the stage is identical (plus they build over the pit for Billy). Seating wise, the RAT actually has a few MORE seats than the Imperial (officially the RAT has 1497 but realistically the number is closer to 1450). The Canon's stage would be hard-pressed to fit Billy, and the Princess's parking garage would mean it could not accommodate the extensive modification required for the bedroom set to reside below the stage.

I do think however that Phantom 2 might be on still, since I have heard rumors that the RAT will have a long run show starting within the first quarter of 2010.

EricP2: Always count on the fact that MANY seemingly high up people at Mirvish either have no idea what is going on, or hide it well (mostly the former lol).

Not necessarily. The show was fully casted and ready to go into rehearsals for the original planned opening, but once it was postponed, the entire cast was dropped and the show was recast for the second planed opening.

Casted isn't a word. re: Mirvish 09-10 Subscription Lineup Changes

And the POW trap room could handle BILLY's sets, as Tag stated. Plus, if TO got an extended tour stop, it'd be just that, a tour stop which would likely mean smaller sets.
