Hey everyone, I have an audition for Miss Hannigan (Annie) in a few days time and I desparetly need a monologue!! If you know of one that kind of resembles the character that's easy to whip up, let me know!
Where are you auditioning that you need a monologue? Seriously, I've been doing musical theatre for almost 20 years and I've never been asked to do a monologue for a singing character. I'm just curious.

I think something from Medea would be appropriate.
Neither have I. I live in Australia, and it's a weird requirement they are asking!
Medea? Never heard of it!! Is it Shakespeare?
Nope it's a Greek tragedy by...Euripides.
I don't think Medea would be good for ANNIE. don't get me wrong, I adore Medea... but.... Medea is nothing like Hannigan, not to mention it's a completely different style....
haha. Maybe one of Ouiser's monologues from Steel Magnolias. She's cranky and cantankerous, though a different kind than Hannigan is (depending on the style of Hannigan you want to play).
I love ANNIE. Break some legs. I played Lily last year, and can't wait until i'm old enough to play Hannigan. lol

Miss Hannigan is funny because she is very serious. Find something along those lines.
Can you stitch something together from Auntie Mame because Vera Charles is the same kind of comic character? For that matter so is Sally Cato and Mother Burnside.
I totally forgot mame. lol There would be a good monologue if you are allowed to do one from a musical.
At my university, they yelled at me for using a monologue from gypsy. lol. Well not yell... but chastised. lol
And as far as monologues for musicals go, it makes sense. Just because someone can sing doesn't mean they can act, and sometimes an actor's acting doesn't get much better than a good cold read. I've seen it happen.
Hell, I've probably BEEN that actor when I first started out. lol

Auditors SHOULD be able to tell that you can act from the performance of your song.

I have been asked for monolouges for musicals. Mostly by regional theatres, but also for the tour of Little Women.
It's hard to find a decent monologue from a musical (except maybe A Chorus Line). Musical characters rarely spill their guts at length in prose. It's usually time for a song by then.
MojaniD---Medea. That's a hoot! I was thinking Lady Macbeth, maybe... or Clytemnestra!
Can we say OVERKILL?
