Miss Jane Hathaway as the Wicked Witch of the West

Just wanted to let everyone here know I published a new page on "Memories of Melody Top" about a 1977 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ starring Stubby Kaye and Nancy Kulp. Readers of this message board may also recognize the name of Cris Groenendaal, who played the Tin Woodman. Follow the link in this message to see photographs from the production and to read its positive reviews in the local press.

Thanks for this great website! The reviews and the newspaper interviews with Nancy Kulp and Marsha Kramer were informative. The photos are delightful, and that's how I remember this production of WIZARD OF OZ. It made quite an impression on me. The costumes look especially impressive. Marsha Kramer was a lovely Dorothy; and Stubby Kaye, Cris Groenendaal, and Clyde Laurents were excellent as her three friends. Using local children to play the Munchkins enabled them to have a very well populated Munchkinland--and a lot of enthusiastic friends and relatives in the audience. Cris Groenendaal was in a number of shows at Melody Top. His rendition of "To Each His Dulcina" was gorgeous when he played the (very young) Padre in MAN OF LA MANCHA.

I think they look like the couple in Grant Wood's "American Gothic" painting.

Agreed! Stubby Kaye looks almost that thin. He's a shadow of his Nicely-Nicely self.
