I'm watching this again for the third time and I need to have someone else on this board agree that this would make a wonderful Broadway musical, or atleast a straight play.
It's a fantastic film and seems a perfect fit for the stage.

Anyone? Anyone at all? Bueller?

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

I remember thinking that it felt just like a play when I saw it for the first time. If I’m not mistaken, I remember hearing that the rights were obtained for a stage version.

Good movie. But I would not pay to see it as a play. It has potential though.

AGREED.

Love love love love love the movie. I think it would work fantastically as a play. As a musical, it would have to be a well-crafted musicalization, of course. It doesn't SCREAM musical but there have been other films that didn't either and some turned out well (THE PRODUCERS, SUNSET BLVD, GREY GARDENS, THE FULL MONTY, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, THE COLOR PURPLE).

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The title roll would be good vehicle for Donna Murphy or Beth Leavel and I'd love to see Stephanie D'Abruzzo as Edith, the short, squeaky-voiced woman.

I almost flipped when I found out that the short, squeaky voiced woman in that film (Shirley Henderson) was Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films. She had the distinction of being the oldest student at Hogwarts!

Beth Leavel would be great as Mrs. Pettigrew!

I can see John Lloyd Young in the Lee Pace role. Any thoughts on who could pull off Delysia?

Delysia would be played by Amy Adams reprising her role on the stage, of course!

If not, I'd personally like to see Kerry Butler do it.

Delysia - Kerry Butler
Miss Pettigrew - Beth Leavel
Phil - Matthew Morrison?
Edythe - Kate Shindle

Anyone who plays Delysia (cuz I know there's dozens of other actresses out there who could pull it off) would have to have great comedic timing, be cute as a button and have a good belt and head voice. So of course LaCheno would be an obvious, though she'd be a bit too old for the role I'm sure the stage would take off the extra years.

how is this off-topic? there's hundreds of movie <----> musical threads on this board.
