I didn't like it on Broadway. I did give it a second chance when I had a subscription to the Papermill who did a production of Miss Saigon. Their version of it, in my opinion, was vastly superior to the Broadway show. The music overall is good, but it's the staging and direction that made the difference.

Ahh, Lea Salonga and Will Chase. Nobody does it better. :)
It's a fantastic show !!! Wonderful music, great story and very emotional ! You'll love it. Have fun !
Put me in the negative column. I thought it a poor rip off of Madama Butterfly. Puccini did it so much better.
Eileen, I saw the Paper Mill production too, two year ago (?). Kevin Gray played the Engineer, one of his strongest roles, and their Kim was excellent, too. We went with Craig Schulam & his wife, who is a voice teacher. They too were quite impressed with The Paper Mill's Saigon.
I also thought the non-Equity tour that was going around a few years ago was really quite nice. Don't know if it's still touring.

Seen it and didn't like it much. The story is the Opera "MADAME BUTTERFLY" transformed to the Vietnam War (like RENT is LA BOHEME turned into present day and AIDA was musical version of Verdi's AIDA) and soooooo predictible!! After hearing the score of LES MIS I was a bit disappointed with Saigon's score. There were a couple of good songs - like I Still Believe, and Now That I've Seen Her - but I found most of the 'big numbers' really boring, especially The Last Night Of The World and all the Engineer's solo numbers - YAWN!! The staging was great in some cases (The Embassy scene for one) but for some reason this show just "didn't do it" for me. I definately have seen much better shows. But it is a matter of opinion.
I love Miss Saigon. I've never seen it but is my dream to. I adore the music and it's a really powerful musical. I hope you enjoy it!
I just saw it for the first time in June. The cast was terrible, it really ruined the experience for me. Hopefully you will have a better experience than I did. Catie - that is one of my favorite FBW songs!
It is one of my favorite musicals of all time. The first post-Broadway production (done in the round) by Theatre Under The Stars was stunning.

I love it! I hope you enjoy it as well!
MISS SAIGON is a riveting, thrilling, poignant musical. It is certainly the best of the "British imports", far superior to Les Miz, Cats, etc.
It was ludicrous that the dreadfully boring Will Rogers Follies beat MISS SAIGON for the best TONY musical.
Enjoy yourself! You will be enthralled by MISS SAIGON.

I think the book is very weak (and agree to whomever said Madam Butterfly did it better), but I enjoy a majority of the music.
