re: Miss Saigon CSR cast list

My BIGGEST problem with this recording is in Why God Why when Cousens sings "Just questions that don't ever end".

Can anyone say... RERECORD? pitchy....

re: Miss Saigon CSR cast list

I didn't get the casting of this either... OLC is it! why didn't they get Keith Burns?! He's the only Thuy I can understand! Everyone else tries to sound like him to no avail!
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Charles Azulay tries to sound like Keith Burns?! Seriously?

re: Miss Saigon CSR cast list

on the CSR recording Ruthie Henshall doesn't FORGET to sing "ALWAYS TRUSTED." If she FORGOT that, they would have re-recorded it, so it would be inserted. Looking in the lyric book that comes with it, it says, "Who's this man that I trusted?"

But on that note...I also wished that the writers would have left the "ALWAYS" in as well.

Also, someone mentioned "Great Sacred Bird." I have a recording of the Australian Cast live singing the song, but it's on cassette. I need to transfer it! re: Miss Saigon CSR cast list

Cousens is laughable in the role.
AS per the lyrics-Boublil and Schonberg are notorious for continuously changing lyrics. Les Miz has gone through numerous lyric changes adn reversals over the last 23 years.
Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

ok... i know i'm going to mess this up... i used to know the lyrics by heart but i know i'm missing a couple here... but this is one version of Little God of my Heart... i know this song went through so many lyric changes but here's one version

(this part is sung like a rececitive)
Tam tam little god of my heart
Soon tam soon your father will come
Look tam see how happy I am

(this parts sounds identical to the current Finale version)
He will come take you home
All I dreamed for you he’ll do
You’re still mine but I can’t go along
Though I seem far away I’ll be watching you

(this is a whole new melody and these lyrics changed constantly as well)
I dreamed your future
You’ll have it still
They think they know
How things must be
They don’t see but they will
Now big smile one kiss one more
Oh my son oh my boy

I really wish I'd gotten to SEE Little God of My Heart. I think the first time I saw the show, they had just changed it again.

There's another version which you can hear bits of in the behind-the-scenes Toronto special.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I'm baffled as to how Battle makes the Miss Saigon score sound like Rent in a role he created many years before Larson wrote the show (I realize it was recorded later, closer to Rent, but still).

He wasn't copying RENT, he just sounds like he could be in it. Just the way he's singing, it's very poppish. Hard to describe. But whatever you call it, I don't think he comes across believably as a Marine.

Charles Azulay isn't bad, IMO.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

re: Miss Saigon CSR cast list

i like Hinton Battle on the recording.. but he just sounds like his voice was hoarse or something... like he was sick but still managing to pull off singing but sounding really rough... i go back and forth between liking it... whereas Peter Cousens almost ruins the darn thing for me... and yeah... i hate how Now That I've Seen Her they omit the "always"... it just sounds REALLY weird... and i quite like Charles Azulay in the role of Thuy...
