Miss Saigon - Little God of My Heart

Hi all,

I'm interested in talking to other MIss Saigon fans who sill frequent this board - especially those who are fans of the show's "forgotten" ending, "Little God of My Heart". Who here knows of the ending? What are shared opinions on this piece?

For reference - this piece replaced The Sacred Bird in 1991, and ran until 1994, when the current Finale Act Two was introduced. Does anyone remember seeing this piece onstage? If so, I'd love to hear your comments.

My personal feeling is that this piece is the strongest of the show's four endings to date, and I would love to discuss with other fans of the show. I also have many recordings to share, if anyone is interested.

Hi Joseph,

I have to agree, "Little god of my heart" is the strongest ending.
There is a very lugubrious feeling to it, you just can feel death is near.

It is the only one that has the right feel to it for the situation.

The first one, sacred bird, is a reprise of "I'd give my life for you" which is just too obvious and does not quite convey the right feel. The newest one sounds more like an "entr'acte" to me, a bit too happy as well, it conveys a feel of excitement.

Sacred Bird will always be my sentimental favorite, but I have to agree: Little God of my Heart seems to fit the best.

I was taken aback when I first heard LITTLE GOD OF MY HEART when I first saw MISS SAIGON the Saturday after the 1991 Tonys. Structurally I liked the original ending because it's symmetrical to the end of Act 1 and LGOMH is a new melody that did not appear anywhere in the show, which was jarring to me. I didn't appreciate the melody and the lyrics as much as I do now. I'm fine with the current finale but I've come to enjoy LGOMH too.

I'm fine with the current ending, but Sacred Bird will always have a place in my heart. I do think that Little God of My Heart is the best ending though.
