I saw Jewtopia tonight. Did anyone have the luck to see this play? OY. That is all I can say about Jewtopia, where every character is a whining, annoying stereotype.
IT WAS VERY OFFENSIVE!
Girl number 1- Fran Drescher from the Nanny. Fran Fine imitation and so tacky you really do pray for some chalk on a blackboard instead of her voice.
Girl number 2- Child 14 year old Valley Girl Jew.
The men, the writing made my friend turn to me and say "This is the most vulgur, tasteless show I have ever seen."
To which I replied I want to convert.
What is the deal with these poorly written shows?
I do have to say that Brooklyn Boy, is about Jewish life and at least written with intelligence, wit and class.
Donald Margulies writes from the heart.
Brooklyn Boy is by far my favorite play this season. And I DID NOT AGREE with Brantly. His review was way off the mark.
Brooklyn Boy is a work of art, unlike the other plays that attempt to describe Jewish life and relationships.

Posted: 2/5/05 at 12:12amReally? I thought the show was funny. Ive heard nothing but good things from everyone else about it as well. Didnt they sell out for nearly 2 years or something in LA too? they must have something people want. And what was wrong with Modern Orthodox? Great cast. Hilarious. c'mon.

Go see Brooklyn Boy. Good writing makes all the difference.

Posted: 2/5/05 at 12:21amNo interest, to be honest. Without compairing these to any other shows... I loved them both. And i disagree completely about them being offensive.

Posted: 2/5/05 at 12:35amI was waiting for that one, lol. No I am not, however, most the people i've talked to about the show (who love it!) are.

Well I enjoyed Modern Orthodox a lot more then Jewtopia.
At least the cast in Modern Orthodox could act. The cast in Jewtopia can not. They were wretched. Especially the women who plays all the women.
She was so annoying. The Fran Drescher part really was annoying.
I was underwhelmed by both shows and found Modern Orthodox the better of two evils.
Brooklyn Boy on the other hand is a brilliant play worth seeing several times. The relationship between Adam Arkin and the man who plays his father was deeply honest and true.
Donald Margulies is a gifted writer.

What show was that?
Just an example of the hilarious writing in Jewtopia:
I want a shiksa girl, they swallow.
FUNNY STUFF.

I have revisted Hairspray with a new cast and was very impressed.
Loved Vilanch, but who doesn't.
Loved Carly Jibsen and Richard H.Blake. Although, Jackie Hoffman was missing which was sad. VERY SAD.
Forbidden Broadway always impresses me, especially the newest version.
Gem Of The Ocean, is a brilliant play with incredible talent.
Rashad moved me to tears as did the entire cast.
I did not love Little Women, but enjoyed Maureen McGovern so much it was worth the price of admission. It was a bit sugary for my taste. It made Millie look sour. LOL.

I love Kim Cea. I have seen Newsical twice.
I could have seen it tonight but chose Jewtopia.
Oh. I also saw Fiddler with Harvey and I had a very good time.
On the one hand, I saw Fiddler one of the best shows ever written and on the other hand Harvey was in it.
ANOTHER WINNER.

Never ask a girls weight or money questions.
But do Jews pay retail? That is the question of the day.
I really need a Q fix. BAD.

First off, I am Jewish. Second, the writers and actors of the show are Jewish. Jewtopia is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
Lighten up.

"Funniest things you have ever seen."
I feel very sorry for you. You need to see more theater.

Although one note:
Craig Bierko is totally adorable and talented.
I just saw him on Onstage. Donna Karger was focusing the entire interview on Molly and the kid from American Pie.
Craig is the most talented of the three and is naturally funny.
FIND A GREAT SHOW FOR CRAIG.
I really adore the talented actor. I also think he is hot.
