I am going to continue trusting Condon... He has alot of fans to cater to, and he should make his own movie, but really want the original to stand...I dont want the score to be depleted, or the amazing book.
I would also really love it if they had a nobody, noone any of us have heard of to play Effie. Even Jennifer Hudson is too well known (and in my opinion, not talented enough.) Her story would be that much more exciting.

The script for the film will have to change. The stage musical is almost completely sung, and that rarely works on film. Condon has said a few new songs will be written for the film, so it's going to be impossible to please all the musical's fans.
DREAMGIRLS as a musical is not a flawless piece of musical theatre. Condon's script for CHICAGO, in my opinion, is an improvement on the stage script, so I'm confident he'll come up with something suitably exciting for DREAMGIRLS.
And I too vote for a complete unknown for Effie. Start hunting those babtist churches, Bill...

It's "baptist" and I wouldn't mind and unknown Effie. That would definitly garner buzz for the movie. I can see folks on here scrambling to find footage of the girl singing somehwere else.
I don't think the musical being almost completely sung through is a bad thing, because it moves the plot along they very in context. You have the performance numbers, then they go into pop-opera mode, then you have the musical theater showstoppers. Any changes in the script should be minor IMO.
