Usher's contract hasn't been signed yet. He was in negotiations but nothing has happened yet, which leads me to believe it's not gonna happen.

Usher?
What about Beyonce?
There were certainly no tan redheaded hairweaved divas in any early 60s Apollo Motorcity Revue on which the opening of Dreamgirls is based...
I guess thats where a lot of imagination comes in.

I'm talking about 1965 not 1995.
Ezelle, What are you talking about? Gladys used to sport a weave back in the day...Mind you those pictures you posted are in black and white. There were certainly "tan" girls, as you put it, back then. You must be caught up in Beyonce's public persona. This is a movie and the make-up, hair, and costume crew will take care of making her Deena.
OMG -- you guys. It's true. I just found this picture of Jennifer Holiday in her makeup as Mamma Effie...
"Come Quick! Effie's dying!"

yea, like i said mary wilson used to wear blond wigs back in the day. and i still dont get the "tan" part
MichaelBennett!!! That made me laugh so hard! Thank you for that.
Of course groups like the Supremes had blond wigs in the 60s. Check out these tan goddesses. And look, they're saving money on the dress budget too...

Time to bring this thread back. I adore it.
Is that picture from HAIR?

I heard Harvey Fienstein was playing Effie.
"And i am telling you"
Close up on housecoat, camera pans back and fades.!!

Actually, there were several...
As for the original posting...if this thread is not B.S., I certainly will not be supporting what will be the biggest musical movie flop in history...
Did we not hear that they're planning a spin-off TV series called "Mama Effie" starring Jennifer Holliday in a retirement home with Carol Channing as her crazy best friend and Jacque (from Sister Sister) as their sassy nurse?
I heard from someone who has contact with Condon that the role has been cast and it's not Fantasia. The person also said that Beyonce's audition for Deena was terrific.
MB - STOP IT ALREADY!
I now pissed all my pants laughing so hard!

Why do people keep wondering if Fantasia will be Effie? She would make much more sense as Lorrell.
Hmmmm, a lot of different stuff, but I can say that I'd like to see someone other than Fantasia as Effie.
I want her to be big :) I know she doesn't have to be, but I want her to be :)
I'm thinking Fantasia may have gotten one of the other roles, but maybe not. We'll see.

Tamyra Grey for EFfie, she is an amazingly talented performer, that lights up the screen. I'm not as convinced by Fantasia, I don't think she has that endearing quality.

I still can't get over that rumor about Denzel Washington directing a screen test or Bill Condon crying. Too bizarre.
Lets bring this thread back == its timely for today.
Why is it timely? Did I miss something? Did they announce my name as Effie yet? I'm rumored to be the winner of the Effie Giveaway-the-Lead Contest! Not only do you win the role, you win a 20-pound ham to go with it.
Seriously, did I sleep through something? Other than everyone ruffling their feathers over speculation, I haven't heard anything new.
(Oh, yeah, this thread is HILARIOUS though!)
