I believe it was so powerful, to me atleast, because you see a woman who detested burlesque when they arrived at the burlesque house unknowing of what it was. And now here she is, desperate, and stooping to 'lower levels' just so Louise can get a star billing...even if it is only at a house of burlesque. Updated On: 1/4/04 at 12:55 AM

okay this may seem silly but i found the moment after written in the stars in aida where amneris steps out to be really moving.
in nine theres a few touching moment. im a huge luisa fan so anything with her onstage touches me but other moments are when guidos about to kill himself and the young guido talks him out of it. when guido rips up carlas divorce papers an is all like i dont care and she just sits there spaced out, it so touching. and then during the final when all the women leave and only one remains, luisa, so good.
and then last 5 years, theres so many things i find sooooo moving in that show.
hehe

"Most Happy Fella" - At the end when Tony tells Rosabella to reinact their meeting - it's always so touching that no matter how many times I see it, I end up in tears.
"Spitfire Grill" - The end when Hannah reads the "winning essay" and the girls realize who will receive the diner is always very touching and poignant moment. I think what makes this scene so effective is the development of the characters up to that point -it allows us to see the growth in Percy and Shelby as well as in Hannah. Though it is a bit predictable, it was a touching moment for me because the cast I saw really made me care about the characters.
There are so many others, but these are the two that come to my mind right now.

In my theatregoing and performing years the most poignant moments:
Music In the Air (1932) - the song WE BELONG TOGETHER when Walter Slezak and Katherine Carrington returned to their town. It made no sense given the political situation in the world, but as I was 11 years old it did not make a difference.
As Thousands Cheer (1933) - the first Act Finale EASTER PARADE when the characters stepped out of a 19th century newspaper drawing and began promenading across the stage.
Jumbo (1935) - a rather haphazard show, but it did offer one beautiful moment when Gloria Grafton sang LITTLE GIRL BLUE.
Babes In Arms (1937) - the one I was in. Two wonderful songs: Where Or When and Lady Is A Tramp. Staged very simply with a single spotlight.
Boys From Syracuse (193
- I was in this one also. the pas de trois to THE SHORTEST DAY OF THE YEAR. No recording has retained or played the dance music that followed the song. It was beautifully staged with George Church supporting Heidi Voseeler in toe shoes and Betty Bruce in heeled shoes.
Glass Menagerie (1945) - Laurette Taylor at the end of act one pushing Julie Haydon to make a wish on the moon.
Allegro (1947) - a poor show and not a classic as many believe. Act Two offered the song COME HOME, sunf by the grandmother to Joe. Very touching!
Tree Grows In Brooklyn (1951) - the closing of Act I, I'LL BUY YOU A STAR.

I've seen over 1,000 plays and musical since 1963..I hope that qualifies me to comment here:
AMADEUS, when Mozart's body is dumped into a pauper
s grave
GYPSY (Angela Lansbury version), when Rose finished "Rose's Turn" and took a deep bow with a glazed look in her eyes.
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE when Stanley says "You and me...we've had this date from the beginning", and the audience realizes that brutality will destroy art and poetry.
MY FAIR LADY, (in a good production) when Eliza finally enunciates "The rain in Spain..." properly. It sends chills down my spine.
and....
TWHM, when Dolly appears at the top of the staircase, making good on her promise to rejoin the human race!

Posted: 1/4/04 at 9:47pmwhen Sutton Foster strikes that final pose after "Gimme Gimme" in Millie, I get chills. i agree with those of you who mentioned certain scenes in Gypsy as well. and the act 1 finale of Wicked made my whole family cry. it was so overwhelming.
