The Sound of Music and The Phantom of the Opera.
I like most of them, but those are my favorites.

Posted: 9/17/06 at 11:25pmThe Sound of Music by far, most of the reasons being sentimental. Second would be Phantom though I agree that Chicago is much better on film than in person.

I love me some Vincent.
I saw him in something earlier, but I have no idea what it was. He was playing a hippie.

Bye Bye Birdie
My Fair Lady
Cinderella
The Producers (everyone has they're own opinion about what they want from a movie musical. Me, I don't mind a literal filming of the stage show. You risk losing the spirit of the musical if you change too much.)

Posted: 9/18/06 at 7:19amAs awful as it may sound, THE FANTASTICKS, but with the deleted scenes put back in. A friend of mine who knows how to do such things re-edited the DVD with them back, and the film actually works far better. And just conceptually, it was a pretty interesting attempt at an almost unfilmable musical.

For heavens' sake, people, where's SINGING IN THE RAIN and AMERICAN IN PARIS? Two of the most perfect movie musicals ever made.
Well, I find SINGING IN THE RAIN to be overrated, although a lot of fun; and, I detest AMERICAN IN PARIS. Since you asked.

A Star Is Born (1954 Version)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Funny Girl
Gypsy
These movies are perfection.

Thank Heaven several million people do not share such a sentiment.
Why? What difference would it make if everyone hated it? Wouldn't you still like them just as much? My enjoyment of films has nothing to do with what other people like.

Miss Saigon, Ragtime, and Les Miserables... oh wait, that's just wishful thinking
I'd have to say West Side Story, Sound of Music, and Chicago (though I have high hopes for Dreamgirls).
