I'm music director for a production of Legally Blonde the musical in Visalia, California. This is the first time I've done this since 2006, and I'm woefully out of date. We will be using performance tracks rather than a live band, but I'm confused by what seems to be a proliferation of providers: directly through MTI, or RMS (Sinfonia, Mix), or ROCS, or MTPit, or who knows? Different software and different sounds? Who is best, who is most affordable or the best deal for the money? Anyone with previous experience with these options?

I believe MTI has something in their contract saying you have to use their tracks, don't they? You might want to check on that. But yes, to answer your question, it's just different software, different instrument libraries, and different performers. Some companies have tracks recorded by real musicians; some have MIDI tracks, some have something in between. But I would check your contract with MTI; you may not have a choice. Happy to answer specific questions in DMs, if you want; I'm a music director and have done this show a couple of times. Good luck, it's a beast!
