It really should have been Sweeney Todd or Chicago. The fact that he went off to play Guido in Nine is anticlimactic.

I don't know. A neurotic character who feels like the weight of his world is crushing him and who is running out of ways to keep everything from falling apart. A childish and selfish man who hurts others pursuing his own greed and ambition and self-interest. The jerk beneath a charming surface. It's not the worst fit.
