Okay so here's an interesting one...
A friend of mine is going to China in a month or so and asked me if there are any Broadaway musicals playing in Beijing or Shanghai?
I know THE LION KING played China once upon a time, but I haven't heard of anything playing there now...
I remember there being an article that spoke about how Cameron Makentosh was going to produce some London shows in China and translate them into Chinese. I found an article that spoke about it.
It says that the first show in this series is going to be Les Miserables which starts in November in Beijing.
article that spoke about London/Broadway shows going to China
I know a lot of tours go over to Bejing & Shenghai, but I'm not sure when. It is more of a NON-equity thing though.
The article I posted talked about Chinese productions with Chinese performers. Not anything non equity. This is something that the government of China wants to do.
Yeah, your point? I was saying what some tours do. I don't see how that clashed with what you said.

Plenty of shows went to Beijing/Shanghai!!!
On top of my head, Les Miz with Colm Wilkinson, Phantom of the Opera w/ Brad Little, US Tour casts of Lion King, Mamma Mia, Sound of Music, Cats, and obviously the current Asian touring company of Cinderella. Lea Salonga & Elaine Paige both have done personal concerts in Shanghai I think.
There's been a Chinese production of I Love You Because I think and there's been rumoured transfers of Avenue Q/Billy Elliot/Lord of the Rings before or in the year 2012!!!
If you're going for a more general answer for China, TONS of musicals' gone to Hong Kong and Macau, namely, Phantom of the Opera w/ Peter Karrie '95 and Brad Little '05 (twice), Les Mis, Cats, Joseph w/ Linzi Hateley, Mamma Mia, Sound of Music, Miss Saigon, Saturday Night Fever, Singin In The Rain, Le Petite Prince...etc 95% of them are Australian casts.
Lea Salonga, Andrea McArdle, Lisa Vroman have all done Broadway concerts in Hong Kong and there's been a musical concert in Hong Kong for 3 years with musical guest Tony Vincent for the first 2 years and Jo Ampil for last and this year!
