Posted: 3/18/07 at 1:11amWell, the additional press certainly helped at the box office, but the reviews were mostly very good anyway and the show ended up winning for Best Musical (and deservedly so IMO, over SOPHISTICATED LADIES and WOMAN OF THE YEAR which both were decent, but not great shows). While I think 42nd STREET would have been a solid hit regardless, the massive amount of press exposure from Champion's death boosted it into a megahit which ran for 8 and a half years and toured forever.

D2: that is absolutely terrifying. I also feel sorry for the people who were near him. There's nothing worse.
Margo: I can see how it would have been a hit regardless, but like you said. At least he went out with a hit and not a flop

Tarzan...I actually blacked out during the second act. Around the point where Tarzan finds out that he is human (or something like that) I kept snapping in and out, it felt like the scene was 30 minutes!
