It actually started on Thursday. I sat on stage at Xanadu with 2 friends. We had a blast. We'd all been on stage there before. Best parts? Seeing Whoopi Goldberg sitting in the audience and then Curtis crashing into the wall in front of our seats. What made that hysterical was we had carefully placed our glowsticks on the speaker, and when he crashed, they hit the floor. Thankfully only one of them had the inside break to start glowing. We all tented our feet around it and were cracking up. The show was awesome as usual. :)
Friday (actual birthday) was 110 In The Shade from the front row. The guy next to me sat down, pulled his towel over him like an airplane blanket, leaned his head on his (I guess) date's (they were holding hands at one point) shoulder and went to sleep. The musicians walking by to go to their box looked at him and a couple looked at me. I shrugged and said "Not with me!" But the show was amazing!! There was some playful inter-cast interaction that made me laugh. (Audra saying "NO!" when Steve's line in "The Rain Song" was "You Wanna hear my deal?", some little things Steve's added into the "battle scene" in "Melisande", etc.) Getting wet was actually fun! :) And then at the stage door, Steve sang happy birthday to me! :) Totally made my day!!
Saturday my parents came into town for a few days. That night we saw The Year of Magical Thinking. Vanessa Redgrave was ON FIRE Saturday night. It was the best, the most animated I've seen her. I so wish that was the performance they were recording for HBO, but as there were no signs up indicating it, and nothing really out of the ordinary outside, I doubt it. We were in row D on the left side of the theatre but right on the aisle, so we didn't miss anything. My parents loved it, so I was happy! (It goes without saying I loved it!!) I know Saturday nights she usually takes off for the country house (words used by the girl who let us know she'd left before) so we didn't bother waiting around. They'd had an early flight and after scrambling to Border's to get my Harry Potter book after 110 I was tired, so we called it a night.
Then yesterday I surprised them with tickets to Curtains ~ largely based on the recommendations of everyone who suggested it when I asked about show options. I hadn't seen it before, so it was a first for all of us. We were in the center mezz, row K on the aisle and the seats were great! I had to lean up a little because the woman in front of me was really tall, but it was no big deal. We all loved the show. When the overture was going on, Daddy leaned over and whispered "This is what a musical should be like!" ~ meaning starting with the overture and getting you in the mood. My own Man-in-Chair-in-training I guess. :) The energy on the stage was awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Afterwards, as we were going out, I asked if Daddy wanted to wait and meet David Hyde Pierce. He said "Can you do that?" I said yes, we had enough time before dinner at Piccolo Angolo, so we headed down to get in line at the door and I pulled out a couple of pens. (Not that you need them for this stage door as they have a guy who holds pens for them all.) Mom started laughing and I said "I come prepared for stage dooring!" David was the last one out, but he was awesome with everyone and it was great to see them meet him! :)
All in all, it was a great weekend!!
Sounds like a BLAST !!!! So glad you had a great time !!!
You deserve it (and many, many more !!)
Sounds like a great birthday weekend! My sister is coming in August and she wants to see Curtains and meet David Hyde Pierce. I've never "stage doored" before but it sounds like it will be a good experience with this particular show. And the "Splash Zone" at 110 sounds like fun!
courtnyj ~ It's a great first stage door experience. It was my parents' as well. They were all really nice! And they let you stretch the line down past the barricades too. With David once he got about halfway down the barricade, they started moving us up and we did it that way.
Aw, I'm glad you had a great weekend and I'm glad you ended up seeing Curtains and liking it!
Btw...happy belated birthday!

Very glad you liked Curtains.
I'd feel partially responsible if you didn't like it, 'cause I'm sure I recommended it!
Aww. It wasn't just people on here. One of my co-workers loves it, so I also took his recommendation into account. It's all good! :)

This is SO something my dad would say! It made me smile :) I like new stuff as much as the next person, but I have to admit that a good old fashioned style musical is still wonderful. I hope there will always be room on Broadway for both.
Glad you had a good time on your birthday weekend!

I am glad you loved the other shows as much as we loved Xanadu on Thursday! I still can't get over how my glowstick lit up HAHA! That will probably be a memory I save forever.
Oh yeah. It was AWESOME!!!
And Dave, yeah. I'll definitely always have that memory. Especially Kerry's face like she knew something happened but she wasn't sure what. Too funny!!
