My Broadway Crush: Audra McDonald

I don't usually stage-door, but I was so moved by Audra's performance in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill that I felt compelled to thank her in person for her amazing performance. I waited for about 40 minutes with maybe 8 other people. When she came out, she was extremely kind and gracious. A few people had VERY long stories about Billie Holiday and asked her quite a few questions. She answered every question and chatted with each person for several minutes. I was the last one she spoke to and after thanking her, I asked how long she prepared for the role. She told me she had been practicing for nearly two years. Finally, I told her that I thought it was too bad that more people could not see her performance, as it's a limited-run. I said "They should film it!". She told me that it's being discussed and will likely happen. Great news for those who can't get to NYC for this show....not that anything will compare to seeing it live.
