So this isn't gonna be a crazy Emcee review because well...I'm not crazy like her and honestly I should be writing an Ethics paper right now lol but I'll give it a shot.

So I didn't hate it, by any means actually. The story or at least the way it is portrayed on stage is nothing very special. I found that I didn't really care about it or many of the characters. There were many holes in the story and I think that is it's biggest flaw.

However I did like some individual performances. I first have to mention Tom Hewitt! Cara has a new crush lol! yuuummmm! The character very attractive in a mysterious, seductive, phantom-esqe way. It's a very sexual and attractive character and Tom Hewitt does it so well. It's one of those things where you feel that you shouldn't be attracted to him but you are. Anyway...I'll stop before I start gettin hot flashes. Ohh and sidenote, we were in the front row and he spit blood on my leg lol.

Melissa Errico was out but I knew that. Her understudy was Elizabeth Loyacano. She was alright, I think that's the best I can say. I didn't find myself caring about the character at all. Again I don't know if that is problems with the book(which there are plenty of) or if her performance contributed to it. I did like Kelli O'Hara, Darren Ritchie and Don Stephenson.

The special effects were very good. My favorite was when Dracula comes to the front of the stage and just drops down. He was about about 2 feet away from me and it was such a fluid motion. Everyone just gasped. The flying was fun but as were the other effects but I think a lot of it was a desperate attempt to spice up a show that would have no hope without it. The ambiance was very different and fun though, very dark and mysterious. It was something different and I enjoyed that aspect. I was also thoroughly freaked out a few moments during it though. Ohh and another thing, if you sit in the first row, or the first few, beware of the fog! lol

Now for the music. I actually liked some of the songs. I went into this thinking I would despise every aspect and I didn't. The lyrics are very sophomoric though. Very predictable phrases and usage. I found that you could finish so many lyrics before they were sung because they were so predictable. Aside from the obvious faults I really did find myself enjoying some of the haunting tunes.

So I really must end this now but as my final thought, Tom Hewitt is the best reason to see this show! Updated On: 9/13/04 at 10:24 PM

Why is it that every time I read a negative or luke-warm review for this show I just want to go back and see it again? Well... I'm going back Wednesday night. Hope Ms. Errico gets her ass out of bed by then! I'm getting a little tired of these Diva wanabees pulling the "strained vocal chords" bit! Who does she think she is anyway? Nathan Lane???

I agree with your review; especially the part about the story being full of holes and that you don't care about the characters. Instead of taking just a piece of the novel and delving into that really well, they seemed to try to include every single part and not go as deep into them. The music and lyrics weren't that great to me on first listen, but I feel like had the story and characters been figured out better, the music and lyrics would have really made more sense.

Oh, and for anybody who didn't read "Dracula Abridged" yet, in case you want a good laugh:

This show is worth seeing just for the beautiful song, "Before the Summer Ends."

Well, I come from the land down under! I really want to see the show! Videos anyone? Scripts? Lyrics? Demos? Midis? That's all I can get my hands on. If I bought a ticket to New York, I'd be out of money to get tickets for Dracula! P.S. And I'm betting, from its reception, it won't play down here until I'm 30

First of all I wouldn't ask for videos or even scripts on this board. Second...if your a student you can get rush tickets for $26. It's not doing well so if you aren't a student you could always go for tkts. Good luck!
