i already posted this on the student board, but nobody really goes over there, so i figured i'd get more help here...
ok. i'm auditioning for a production of My Fair Lady in early January and need an audition song, here is the description... "a minute long cutting from any Musical Comedy song from the My Fair Lady era (roughly post WWII to 1970)."
i'm a mezzo soprano and i'm auditioning for Eliza.
thanks!!!! (:

oh that's a good one..
what about "Wherever he Aint" from mack and mabel? someone suggested that.

i mean sure, but mack and mabel isn't exactly going to show a "my fair lady" side of you musically, is it?
what some other lerner/lowe's... brigadoon? or what about one of julie's songs from camelot, or carousel?

i mean, if you think about it, look at julie andrews' roles since she played eliza and that's the part you want?
guenevere in camelot, maria in sound of music, victoria in victor/victoria.. she played millie dilmount in the original movie too, so i guess you could look at something from tmm. but i think the first two are the best "my fair lady" style.

ya i startedt thinking about the roles she played, but all i could come up with were Mary Poppins and Sound of Music.
do you have song titles from camelot and carousel? i'm having trouble looking them up. thanks!!

"the simple joys of maidenhood" and "if i loved you"
if you look on ibdb or amazon you can find all song titles.

well you're good for getting such a head start!

The character in Camelot is Guenevere, not Marian.

since camelot isn't really my fair lady era, does anyone else have any other suggestions?
What about some of the songs from "South Pacific". As I am a mezzo too, I would recommend either "Bali Hai" or "Wash that Man". "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from "Flower Drum Song" comes to mind too.
Best of luck to you.
You'll need something that shows the vocal range AS WELL as the spunkiness of the character. Maybe "Shall I Tell You What I Think Of You" from KING AND I or even "My White Night" from THE MUSIC MAN.
It is a BAD IDEA to sing a song from the show you are auditioning for, unless specifically asked.
Some random ideas
I Ain't down yet from Molly Brown
I Hate Men - Kiss Me Kate
Both of these show give you a chance to do a healthy belt and add in some legit mix as well as the whole acting thing.
Good luck.

I'm sorry, but what the heck does "bump" mean? Haha
How are My Fair Lady (1956) and Camelot (1960) not the same era? Are you referring the their settings? or when they premiered?
I'd look at Brigadoon if I were you - Heather on the Hill is beautiful.

i was thinking setting. but maybe the director meant for it to be when they came out. i'm not sure entirely. but i have a lot of good ideas now, thanks to everyone!
all im saying is i should know more than you thank you and alot of the time they appreciate a song sung from the musical then they can tell if you are suited for the kind of voice they are looking for ok???

the director specifically asked it to be from a different musical.
