Great weekend. Saw three shows and had an awesome time.
Friday night, 12/22 I saw Spring Awakening. Absolutely loved it. It was a brilliant piece shared by an ensemble of terriffic actors. Lea Michelle was really great and I really enjoyed everyone. The set better win the tony. It was incredibly creative and worked so well! Overall, go see it, amazing!!!
Saturday Afternoon, 12/23, I saw the Apple Tree. Okay, the show isn't great. Probably my least favorite of these composers. I would have much rather seen She Loves Me in 54. Nonetheless, Kristen was brilliant. Stole the show. Marc, Walter, and Brian were all top notch, and the ensemble was strong although they did not have much to do. This is Kristen's show and it is worth it to see her, but I just didn't love the show. There was a discussion after the show which was really fun and Marc went all out about how over amplification ruins a show and can also be a good thing. He is definitely an outspoken introvert, if that makes sense.
Then, Saturday Night, 12/23, I went to TKTS in order to grab tickets for The Grinch, which I wanted to see for Holiday Fun, but I decided last minute to see Grey Gardens for my third time. Being a big fan of the show, of course I loved it. Everyone was in. But out of all three times, this was the worst I've seen it, saying that it was still amazing. The house was not full, and the performers were not giving their all. I think they were all ready to take their much needed break. Some mistakes that occured were in "Mother Darling" when Christine held out a note too long which screwed up Erin, which was saved by Bob. In act two, during "Jerry Likes My Corn" Mary had a lyric flub saying "Yo means yes, Hey means no", and John came out too early for "Choose To Be Happy" resulting in "Harsh.....Harsh Winters Weather". But I still love the cast and loved the show. Definitely still my favorite show currently on Broadway, I just think the cast new they were getting their Christmas break and they were tired and ready to go.
Anyway, had a great time, and reccomend all of these shows! Especially Grey Gardens!

I LOVE GG as well, but that's upsetting about that performance...I agree with the idea of the cast needing a break...
ETA: Seeing Apple Tree and Spring Awakening in January. VERY EXCITED!!

I agree with you about The Apple Tree. The show itself was not good, but all the performers gave their best.

If Spring Awakening wins the set Tony, I will be very disappointed. It served its purpose well, but there are many more deserving shows this year.
As for Kristen stealing the show - I think that's pretty impossible since its hers to begin with. Personally, I think Brian steals every scene he's in and doesn't get nearly enough credit.
I WANT TO SEE GREY GARDENS AGAIN!!!

Do they really get a Christmas break? Isn't it just a few days like normal?
Well GG gets today and tomorrow, so a 2 day break which is longer than usual.

Really? I always thought they got Monday and Tuesday off? Or most shows do anyways, right?
No, most shows perform Sunday matinee, Monday dark and then perform again Tuesday night.
The company of GG is getting no more or less a break than normal. The show schedule is the same as always.
Sorry you saw an "off" night of GG... but I guess it's nice to know they're human.
That's a shame about Grey Gardens, but as best12bars aid, they're only human.
I feel like I am the only one who enjoys the actual show The Apple Tree. I think it's very enjoyable and has a lovely score. It's dated, yes, but I found the production very solid. Oh well.
