My LES MIZ experience

Posted: 2/21/06 at 4:18pmI saw LES MISERABLES twice this past weekend, the first time on Friday night, and the second time on Sunday afternoon. I went with friends both times; it was their first time seeing it and I always like introducing people to shows I love and enjoy. Anyway, Friday night went by smoothly, save for the late people, but Sunday was really bizarre. For one, we ran into Danny Bonaduce. At least, I think it was him (he?). We had lunch at Cheers near Faneuil Hall Market Place, and as we were coming out he was going in. He held the door for us and I said, none too tactly, "Hey, you're that guy from that show!" I couldn't remember his name until after he had gone inside. My friends also recognized him and we remarked on how short he is. (I'm 5'8" and I towered over him by an inch or so.) After that, we headed to the Opera House. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune to sit next to two women who found it necessary to comment on what was going on onstage, i.e. "Here's where I think the little boy dies. See, I told you." (Before the show started, they also read aloud the synopsis featured in the Playbill.) But what really pissed me off was the guy who sat in front of me, who kept shfiting his head from left to right every three seconds -- and I'm not exaggerating! This caused me to move my head in order to see, which no doubt created a dominoes effect behind me. As for the show, it was an okay production. I wish the sound could have been better. "Red and Black," "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and the Act I and II finales were anticlimatic. You could feel the music beginning to soar and then suddenly plateau, which was disappointing to me because I wanted to feel the chills and excitement that I felt when I saw it at San Diego's Civic Theatre. Oh, well.

If they saw it "this past weekend," they're in Boston.

Posted: 2/21/06 at 11:44pmI just came back from it now. I bought the last ticket for tonight, Row H of Mezzanine. I guess Thursday is the best bet for those still trying to catch it in Boston.

Dude. If Les Mis came to my school, I'd go to every performance.
Or, actually, I would work each show and sit and watch.
Yeah.
