My Les Miserables Review

This was my first time seeing Les Mis. I know in my mid thirties – unbelievable. I was excited to see that most of the cast was in except for one ensemble member.

All in all it was good. I was a bit under whelmed by the whole story but I found the performances to be on the most part amazing.

I found the first act to be extremely long. I see a lot of theater but I guess I am not a real sweeping large musical type of guy.

Alexander Gemignani – He, I felt was the strongest of the cast. He carried the show for me. His acting and his voice were unbelievable. I see a tony nomination in his future.

Norm Lewis – His voice was a pleasure to listen to. However, I am not sure what it was but I did not feel the anger or hatred toward his character that I thought you should. Maybe because as I read in another thread – it is impossible to hate this man.

Daphne Rubin-Vega - I was prepared for a train wreck but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I feel she acted the part extremely well and I actually thought her singing most of the time was excellent. She did hit a few clunkers, but all in all I enjoyed her. I think that her voice is so different that many people might be turned off.

Celia Keenan Bolger – I thought she too was amazing. Excellently acted and sung.

Ali Ewoldt – I was a bit underwhelmed by her acting. I did not feel anything toward her character. Her singing was good but other then that pretty average.

Adam Jacobs – Very well done.

Aaron Lazar – did well with the small role he had

Thenarndiers – very nicely done. There has been some talk of Gary Beech being miscast, I did not see it. I thought he was excellent

The kids - Young Cosette was good, felt a little bad for her she had a cold but handled the coughing very well. Gavroche was excellent and got a great ovation at the curtain call.

I read about many people feeling so much during this show but I was not feeling it. All I was feeling was I saw a decent show with and excellent cast.

There are my thoughts for what they are worth.

isn't Gary Beach the only person who hasn't yet been accused of being miscast???

Top notch review sir.

Yeah, I've heard people bash the cast too much,
a certain few yes weren't the best I feel they could've found.
But overall fantastic.

Goshen doesn't do High-School-shows.
