My NYC Weekend....

I just had an amazing weekend in NYC!! it was so much fun! So here was my weekend (show wise)

Friday Night--WICKED--AHHHHHHHH! I am so in love with this musical! I think that the score is incredible, the book is so smart, the characters are so well developed and the ENTIRE cast is sooo incredible. Standouts of course Idina, Cheno, Norbert, Joel, Michelle, and also Stephen Oremus is a great conductor you can tell he loves what he is doing. I will never forget the last moment of act 1! ahhh! the picture is forever in my head! I dont understand how this musical did not get 100 percent positve reviews!

Saturday Mat.--AVENUE Q--Exceeded my great expectations. I was disappointed that John Tartaglia was understudied but Barrett Foa ended up being INCREDIBLE! So much energy and such an amazing performer! The whole cast was great!! The show is a riot!! I have never laughed so hard in a show!

Saturday Evening--THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE--I definitly think this show has still got it. Sutton of course blew the roof off the place. I also think Christian and Leslie have grown so much in their part and were phenomenal. Delta was fun to watch, she is different then Harriet. Two little things they changed which I was a little sad about it that when she says "Silly Millie Meersy doesnt bite" she didnt do the growl noise and in "They Dont Know" they changed the ciggerette routine to one with a Chinese hand fan.

Sunday Mat.--TABOO--Ill start with the good. That cast is so insanse! So much talent pours out of the company. So much greatness! I also enjoyed the sets. The downside, I feel like this musical tries to be more serious than it actually is. I felt like some of the songs were SOOOO cliche. I think that it should close and rework some things bc it has defninte potential!!!

Sunday Evening--LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS--This I was most suprised with. Going in I was not expecting much bc I didnt hear very positve reviews. i heard it was very high school. I didnt see this in any way shape or form. I think that EVERY single prson on that stage was extremly amazing. I dont understasnd all the negativity surrounding Kerry Butler. I loved her choices and thought she did a great job. Also, the Urchins could not of possibly worked better together they were so together and sounded and looked so amazing with one another. Not only was the cast great, but the sets--AMAZING. The special effects--INCREDIBLE. I had ONE complaint, and it was nto major at all. I felt like in "Call Back in the Morning" that Kerry and Hunter were more worried about getting the phone routine right then actually performing--oh well. I loved it!!

Anyways, that was my weekend! LOL :) YAY!

Nice weekend in NY!
Good choice on seeing Taboo before it leaves.

I, too, loved the new "Little Shop of Horrors."

I thought I was going crazy when Delta whipped out the fan. I could have sworn that Harriet Harris had a cigarette. I guess I was right.

Sounds like you had a fabulous time! I'll agree with you about Taboo--the cast is unbelievaby talented, but the show itself is a mess. The stories of Leigh Bowery/Boy George never really collide until the end, so you don't fully understand how they relate, especially because it seems like Leigh didn't play such a huge role in the life of Boy George and his fame was a posthumus fame. *shrug* And the score is also nothing special. Maybe the London version is different and would have been more successful?

I wonder why they cut the cigarette moment...because Harriet did indeed have a long cigarette in They Don't Know. Odd...

they replaced that back in October i think, maybe when she CAME to the show? i thought i heard somewhere it was because of the smoking ban.

i also remember Harriet used to go "woof" after that line. it was funny :)

That's what I thought, too, but then I remembered Golda's Balcony, in which Tovah Feldshuh smokes like a chimney, so I figured it couldn't be that.

Loved your report of your weekend! I'm on my way and can't wait!! So... did you try the stage door for Wicked? I know you had blistering cold weather to deal with. Doubt I would have been up for it.

THO I tend to be VERY critical of theatre, I truely do love and adore it. There is nothing more incredible then seeing a show that physically touches and moves you. When I hear about someone that is so in love with the theatre, and has come to NYC to emerse himself in it. It makes me so happy that I have chosen this profession. AND I thank you for that!!!!!
