I'm home!!!
First of all, let me say how pleased I was to actually BE there at the awards AND with the winners
That is all.
Now for the fun part: my reviews *grins* In order that I saw them.
NOVEMBER 6/14/08 8PM
Nathan once again amazed me. He never leaves the stage- like he didn't in BUTLEY. He looks great and is at the height of his game. It only made me sadder he didn't a nod...
And with that, I must admit while Laurie was good I did not feel she deserved hers.
LOVED it. Funny and a perfect foil for what's actually going on in our REAL election/politics today.
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA 6/16/08 8PM
John Cudia is hands down one of the finest Phantoms ever. Period. The orchestra is STILL one of the best on Broadway. It *never* ceses to amaze me the amount of Japanese tourists in the audience.
Good to see George Lee Andrews still plugging along.
Polly Baird is a vast improvement from the more recent Meg's and that is GREAT news.
Other than that... Um... It's still magic
GYPSY 6/17/08 8PM
The first performance after their wins.
I was sitting in the aisle seat 4 rows back form the stage and la LuPone brushed my arm as she came up the stairs bellowing, "SING OUT LOUISE!" We all gave her a five minute standing O. She actually broke character and bowed to us, a proud smile on her lips and tears in her eyes. What can I say? She is a force of nature. Amazing, perfect, just... awe-inspiring. Her voice, her power, her total command of the character and stage. I was in tears because I knew I was witnessing one of the BEST performaces ever in the Broadway theatre. She's still wearing her Isotoners, but she had her shoes on for the Tony performance.
We made Laura cry by clapping for her, too, when she came on with her slarm clock *lol* She was so deserving of her Tony and she looked amazing that night and on that stage.
Boyd embodies Herbie. 'Nuff said. He and Patti had GREAT chemistry- LOVED you'll never get a away from me.
WICKED 6/18/08 2PM
I was lucky enough to get the only ticket they'd had available for some time. Dead center 5 rows back. The atmosphere was electric.
Kerry Ellis' second performance on Broadway. She... um... made me miss SJB. Not that she was bad, quite the opposite... but she played Elphie to... She held back BIG TIME. Maybe that's the best way to say it. I'm sure she'll grow and get used to being on Broadway.
Kendra Kessenbaum is unfortunately my least favorite Glinda. I'm sorry, I just don't get her choices and she strains for the higher notes.
David Burnham is sooooo handsome and surely one of the finest Fiyero's ever. Enjoyed him... and he is soooo nice. It was raining, but he stayed and sighed for us all. He said he was going off to LA for his CD and to work more on his music, but added he'd be back.
I loved Jayne as Morrible. Second to none to Alma Cuervo and of course Carole Shelley IMHO.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN 6/18/08 8PM
The set itself is one of the most elaborate, technical and amazing that I have ever seen.
Roger is at the height of his game. SOOOOO adorable.
PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ is so much fun!!!
This didn't make me a Sutton fan... Sorry.
You can see Stro all over this and Mel tried to be too... He followed the same pattern he did with THE PRODUCERS and it simply just... It worked, but it didn't... if that makes sense *sighs* I enjoyed it and would go again. Let's leave it there *lol*
I had an amazing time.
I know this isn't anywhere NEAR the quality of j*'s amazing reviews, but I tried.
Peace!!!

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
