Well, I have to say that I have officially jumped onto the Bare/Michael Arden/John Hill band wagon! These two guys are just the dearest things. It was such a pleasure hearing them talk, and meeting them afterwords was really great too. Keep in mind, I hadn't heard either one of this sing until tonight, so I was really in for a nice surprise!
I guess I'll start off by saying I was really dissapointed there weren't more people there tonight. I mean, the first time I went to the Chatterbox it was PACKED OUT, and then last week there were fewer people, and then this week...really sad. Shame on everyone who could have gone but didn't! These guys are great, and they work really hard! They deserve your support!
Well, here goes...
Seth introduced John Hill first and they talked for quite a while. John is hysterical. While Seth was asking him questions, John asked the audience if it was boring. What made it so funny was that he was really sincere. OH MY GOSH...I just remembered- he had this rip in the left upper inside thigh of his jeans and of course pointed it out. Well, guess what I couldn't stop thinking about the rest of the night! Anyways, back to the subject... They talked alot about John going to college, and showed a GREAT clip of John singing that popular George Strait song "Check Yes or No" at a theme park in Texas. It was hysterical. And then John starts pointing out this couple who where once married but got a divorce because she "did it" with him (John points out another guy). Or maybe it was the guy who had the affair...not sure, but it was funny just the same.
Then comes Michael! What a CUTIE! He's just adorable. They talked about him growing up in Texas as well, but probably spent the whole of Michael's interview talking about Juliard. Of course, it all made since to me why John wrote the thing about not having gone to Juliard. Michael also mentioned being cast in a play (I'm sorry I don't remember the name)-Perhaps it was The Miracle Worker...with Hillary Swank but turned it down because of advice the Juliard folks gave him. Incidentally, the play never happened. I'm sure you guys probably know all this stuff already, but it was all news to me so if I'm giving you a bunch of info you already know, sorry.
They really didn't talk that much about Bare. Even though they made jokes about the whole thing, it was still really obvious that they were really hurt about the whole situation. It's definately a bummer.
One thing that I WISH Seth would have gotten more details from was a vacation they took to Las Vegas together over the summer. When they brought it up I was like, "okay, now we're gonna get the dirt." Didn't happen! They just talked about the shows they saw. One of them was We Will Rock You, and John was like "it rocked us." Too cute! And then when Seth asked them how it was, Michael was like "the music was great." What a sweetheart, but I couldn't help thinking..."well, DUH! it's Queen!"
Okay, now I'll get to the singing...
They sang "Bare" and it was really beautifully done. So sweet. I really don't know what to compare it to, but even though I don't know much about the story, the song touched me just the same. Well done guys!
Afterwards, I was talking to them and my heart just went out to them because I know they are really sad about it. I told John that I LOVE his online journal and he said that he will keep writing them if people are reading it!
I'm sorry for whoever missed it, it was truly a blast!

Chrysanthemum - Thanks for your detailed review of the show last night, please don't ever aplogize for giving "too" much info, for those of us who can't be there, such as myself, due to not living in NY, I know I at least really appreciate it!!

MOG - I am just going to thank you here for your review on the Bare thread I really enjoyed them both!!!

Sounds like the show was really good, not that I ever doubted that. It sucks that it was not packed, that kinda makes me sad, maybe it was just because it seemed like there wasn't too much notice about them being on, I know if I found out a little more in advance I would have done everything in my power to drive in from MI. I love the Chatterbox shows but have only ever seen the recordings, so I would have loved this show with Bare to have been my first time seeing it live, but what can ya do!!
