The problem with casting Glenn Close is that she is really not a singer. She is a wonderful actress and could act the role beautifully, I'm sure, but she struggled with singing the role of Norma Desmond and Rose is a more vocally demanding role.
She sounds ok when you listen to her performance on it's own but, when you compare Glenn doing those numbers fron Sunset to strong singers who have done them (Betty Buckley, Patty Lapone), you can hera the difference.
Pawk would be good. Lillias White is also a good idea. The last time i heard her live it was as the mother in that new Josephine Baker musical (TUMPIE'S LAST DANCE) and Lillias was amazing!
But i could see closing it with Bernadette as well. The only interesting thing about GET YOUR GUN remaining open was the Reba factor. Can't think of a suitable "factor" for Mama Rose, unless it's Simon Cowell *LMAO*. But maybe Debbie Allen?!?!?!
What about Florence Henderson? This just popped into my head for some reason and the more I think about it the more I think it would be phenominal. When was the last time she was on stage? Think she would even do it?
I say the show closes with Bernadette and the next time it is revived it should be Christina Agulara when she is 55! Let's put this show away for a while. I love it too, but my god, how long will it go on?
LOL Sueleen! You've made my day! LOL!
Cheers,

Actually, I like the choices of Pawk, Linda Eder, or Lillias White. Those are some intriguing choices, and I think they all have the star power along with the abilities to do the role well.

Not a "name" name, but definitely a "Broadway name"...a perfect choice would be...Judy Kaye.
