Myths and Hymns Questions

Ok. I am relatively new to these boards and I just had a few questions. Being a huge Light in the Piazza fan, I did a quick search for other stuff by Adam Guettel. Happening upon Myths and Hymns, I purchased it on iTunes. Needlessly to say, I'm enamored. I hope to purchase Floyd Collins next and love it half as much as I do Myths and Hymns.

I was just wondering if anyone knows who the singers are on the album. Does Adam sing some of his own material?

Just a quick interjection. The cover art for the CD is one of my favorite ones for any CD.

And lastly, when was this on Broadway? Or was it just Off-Broadway? I tried the search feature, but I couldn't come up with anything. If anybody could help me, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Myths and Hymns wasn't intended to be a musical. It's a concert or song cycle. A lot of the recording is Adam singing his own stuff. Some noteworthy people on there are Billy Porter, Mandy Patinkin, Annie Golden, Audra McDonald, Jose Llana, and Theresa McCartney. I'm sure there's more people than that but I don't feel like going into it. I'm tired. You can however look all of these people up. Or just go to Amazon and look up the CD. I'm sure all the info is there.

It was done at the Public Theater. At that time it was called SATURN RETURNS. Though some cast members are on the album it is NOT a cast album. They recast it for the recording . Adam was not singing with the cast (nor Mandy) Having loved Floyd Collins I saw this one 4 times .It was great though I seem to remember some cast changes and injuries.

As a I recall there are things in the actual show that have been cut or added and aren't on the recording. Build a Bridge, Jesus the Mighty Conquerer (cut I think), Life is but a dream don't appear on the CD. They're great songs though.

on a side note, if you'd like to hear Adam singing check out Ricky Ian Gordon's FABULOUS album Bright Eyed Joy. He's brilliant on it
