I agree, Hair is absolutely nothing like a Rock Concert. There is a story line, layered and complex, yet told in an extremely simple way.
I found Hair to be much more moving and engaging then Next to Normal (the later which moved me to rock my butt back and forth because by the middle of the second act I was feeling as if my butt was taking root.)
This is really annoying me that people think Hair is just a Rock Concert. It's NOTHING like a rock concert.
"The music that I've heard and the reviews and what I know about the story (and even what people say on here) is that its more like a rock concert than a broadway play. it doesn't really have a solid plot line but if that's what you like...
I say look at the synopsis of them all on wikipedia then decide!! :)"
Um you said you won't see it because of the reviews but they got all rave reviews... No one has really said it's like a rock concert, at least no one reliable.
It has a perfectly solid plot line and a perfect score.
I've only seen In the Heights and Hair, but of those two options, go with Hair! I enjoy In The Heights, but this production of Hair is incredible. It should not be missed.
And Hair may have the energy and relevance of a rock concert (yeah, I said it: relevance), but it's much more.
see whenever you ask a question like this you are going to get a variety of answers, each person pushing for his or her favorite.
I honestly am in love with all three of these, but they are so so soooo different. We need to know more about what type of show you are looking for, what other shows you liked, who you're going with etc.
Hair is definitely the most energetic I would say, with Heights coming in at a close second. But Hair is really interactive, lots of 4th wall breaking, like one big hippie party, it definitely is a lot of fun. However, the lack of strong plot does bother some people, I personally have no problem with it. yes, it does have a story, but really it is more about the music, the experience, and the social commentary. (All of which I think are amazing)
If you want a show that is going to make you think a lot and leave a strong emotional impact (with some very catchy songs along the way) then go see Next to Normal. I saw it the other day and it was unbelievable, I left the theatre in tears.
In the Heights is one of my favorite shows, its is very modern, a whole lot of fun, and heart warming too.
If you still cant decide, one thing I usually do is see which I can get the best seats for and that determines which show I'll see.

Any of these three musicals are great, so I'm pretty sure whatever show you'll choose you are going to enjoy it, but my vote is for Hair.
