Hi all
I need a 90-second contemporary monologue for an audition this coming Friday.
The production is Adam Guettel's "Floyd Collins," which I'm not too familiar with so I don't know what kind of contemporary monologue to perform. Dramatic? Comedic? Regular?
I've been toying around with the opening "Hell" by Man in Chair from "The Drowsy Chaperone," and while it's short, sweet, and funny -- I can't help thinking it's a pigeon-holing monologue for the role of a weak/gay male character whereas I might need something with a little more brute for "Floyd Collins."
Also, I have a few comedic/political bits from James Thurber but they are more of a narrating role (no character motivation) telling a short story.
Any recommendations? PLEASE!

Posted: 8/31/06 at 1:16amI would say something more dramatic, or sero-comedic. I wouldn't go full-out physical comedy. It's a small simple show and involves a souther accent - I believe? Check out some clips online of the show or google for images. I would say something honest, I like to do a monologue from Neil LaBute's "Fat Pig." Helen says it at the end of the first scene, but if you change a few words, it makes sense. It's a great monologue. I would say stick with something contempory, but interesting. I don't think the Chaperone monologue would work in this case. I've never seen the show, so I don't know, but I would say it wouldn't be the best choice.

Thanks Rentboy
I'm doing some research now, but what's a little background on "Fat Pig" and what do you mean by this:
'Helen says it at the end of the first scene, but if you change a few words, it makes sense'
Any help providing a link to the script?
Yes, I'm gonna do some researching of Floyd Collins clips (if I can find any). This production is going to be minimalistic (but yes, southern accents)
I'm still trying to figure out if I even have TIME for a show in my already busy existing schedule!
