NEFERTITI - Died in Chicago in 1977 (Production Photos Added)

I recently discovered an LP cast album from this show, NEFERTITI.

The show featured Andrea Marcovicci as the titular princess and Robert LuPone, fresh off of A CHORUS LINE. The composers were fairly unknown at the time and remain so today, with the only other relevant credit among them being the lyricist's earlier collaboration on VIA GALACTICA.

I quite enjoy the album, it's no great groundbreaker but based on the tagline "a musical romance" I don't think that's what they were going for. The score is helped tremendously by the excellent orchestrations, which give off a MAN OF LA MANCHA feel.

Did anyone see it in 1977, or one of its many revisions which have apparently been mounted over the years?

I have both recordings of the show and got to see the revival that was staged in Chicago back in about 2007 I think. It was a perfectly fine show with nothing truly wrong, but then again there was nothing truly outstanding about it either. I liked some of the new songs and I adore the artwork done for the show but it's really lacking in drama and pace.

Chris Gore did not have much success writing for the stage, but three years after this he was Oscar nominated for his script for Fame.I think he was lost to aids during the plague years.

His brother was Michael Gore and his sister was legend Lesley Gore. All three Gores were nominated for their contributions to Fame and Michael won for song and score.

Kind of Julie Taymor vibe in some of those shots. That sun.
